Job Description

Duties

  • Serves as an Engineering Technician responsible for developing plans and designs for a variety of projects of considerable scope and complexity.
  • Repair, maintenance, alteration, and construction of major technical and experimental facilities and installation infrastructure.
  • Incumbent exercises knowledge gained from extensive experience and on-the-job training in civil, mechanical, or electrical engineering work.
  • Prepares plans, designs, and specifications required for approved special projects involving maintenance, repair, alteration, or construction.
  • Inspects facilities and prepares reports with various engineering features.
  • Prepares projects of broad scope and complexity for accomplishment by open-ended architectural/engineering (A-E) design/study development contracts.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. BASIC REQUIREMENT:

Specialized experience including technical work in the areas such as: drafting, surveying construction estimating, physical science, mathematics, aerospace, architecture, chemicals, electrical or mechanical systems, mining, petroleum, or nuclear systems.

OR

Experience in a trade or craft that work required intensive knowledge of engineering principles, techniques, methods, and precedents for example trade positions with substantial developmental, test, or design responsibilities such as: a Planner and estimator who analyzed designs for production purposes or an Instrument maker or model maker who performed design or development work on devices fabricated.

OR

Certified by the National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies, an organization sponsored by the National Society of Professional Engineers.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE:
GS-12:
One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service which includes: 1.) Preparing plans, designs, and specifications required for approved special projects involving maintenance, repair, alteration or construction in support of installation mission and tenant activities, 2.) Prepare projects for accomplishment of open-ended architectural/engineering (A-E) design/study development contracts, 3.) Managing fuel distribution, replenishing fuel tanks, and monitoring fuel capacity, AND 4.) Preparing contract documentation for work, estimates, contracts, and delivery orders for projects within the Directorate of Public Works.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-11).

GS-11
One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-10 grade level in the Federal service which includes: 1.) Preparing plans, designs, and specifications required for approved special projects involving maintenance, repair, alteration or construction in support of installation mission and tenant activities, 2.) Managing fuel distribution, replenishing fuel tanks, and monitoring fuel capacity, AND 3.) Preparing contract documentation for work, estimates, contracts, and delivery orders for projects within the Directorate of Public Works.
Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-10).

GS-10
I have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service which includes: 1.) Knowledge and experience of heating ,air-conditioning, machinery, piping, plumbing, electrical, ventilation, fire protection, excavation, shoring, lighting, and similar types of equipment and systems., AND 2.) render technical assistance in the overall planning of constructions and renovation projects which include the planning and scheduling the work with the contractor.
Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-09).
