Basic Requirement: This position has a basic entry requirement. The entry requirement requires completion of education or a combination of education and experience sufficient to be comparable to that normally acquired through the completion of a four year course of study with a major in the professional or scientific field. Basic Requirement Fire Protection Engineer 0804 series:
In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:
Specialized Experience GS-13: One year of specialized experience which includes assisting in reviewing designs, plans and specifications for fire protection systems; conducting pre-design surveys to obtain data for Fire Protection systems; and/or participating in the testing of Fire Protection systems. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12).
This position has selective placement factor which must be met prior to employment and for continued employment. Selective Placement Factor: This position requires a current, active, valid and unrestricted license as a Professional Engineer (PE) in a state, the District of Columbia, or a territory of the United States.
Education
FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university. - Leads fire safety efforts by setting standards, guiding projects, and ensuring buildings meet safety requirements from planning through completion.
- Reviews designs and inspections to identify fire risks and directs fixes to keep facilities safe.
- Provides expert advice on fire safety rules and works with engineers and partners to apply them correctly.
- Consults with teams and customers to solve fire safety issues during design and construction.
- Inspects sites and systems to confirm proper installation and operation of fire protection features.
