Job Description

Duties

  • Lead a patrol team of three or more officers, including Department of Army Civilian Police (DACP), Military Police (MP) and Department of Army Security Guards (DASG).
  • Provide direct oversight of all stages of investigations conducted by assigned DACP and MP personnel.
  • Provide sworn testimony based on investigative findings.
  • Conduct various law enforcement training programs for military and civilian personnel on the installation.
  • Conducts traffic law enforcement patrol using specialized equipment such as radar, Lidar and breathalyzer.
  • Performs protection duties to deter, detect, and deny unauthorized access at fixed installation, internal compound, and incident perimeter posts.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Incumbent must have successfully graduated from the United States Army Civilian Police Academy or complete within 1 year of hire date, unless incumbent has been grandfathered or has an approved waiver from the Office of the Provost Marshal General.
  • Must comply with and maintain the requirements of the Individual Reliability Program which includes a high standard of conduct, assessed for emotional stability, judgment, adjusting to changes, work effectively under pressure and emergencies.
  • Must complete of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • Must maintain physical conditioning and pass an annual physical agility test (PAT) as outline in "The Army Civilian Police and Security Guard Program". Failure to meet the standards will result in separation.
  • This is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) and is covered by the Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Program. IAW AR 600-85, a DA 5019R Condition of Employment must be signed for mandatory drug testing.
  • In accordance the Lautenberg Amendment to the Gun Control Act if convicted of a misdemeanor or felony crime of domestic violence are not eligible for this position; and is subject to removal from the position if found convicted after being employed.
  • Federal law requires removal of federal law enforcement officers convicted of felonies. Convictions that occurred before January 20, 2001 are not included in this requirement; only new convictions will trigger the requirement.
  • Mission Essential designated position during Inclement Weather Conditions or emergency conditions. In the event of a crisis situation or inclement weather, the incumbent must continue to perform the duties until relieved by proper authority.
  • Incumbent must possess a valid state driver's license and be able to obtain and maintain a government motor vehicle operator's license.
  • Hours of work is subject to irregular and/or rotating shifts, evenings, nights, weekends and holidays. Incumbent is required to work overtime as directed and is subject to recall for emergency overtime.
  • You may be expected to travel a 10% of the time for this position.
  • Incumbent is subject to possible civil action due to improper exercises of authority or injudicious use of force in the apprehension or detention of individuals
  • OKMust be able to pass training, certification and qualification requirements related to law enforcement work functions. These include, but not limited to: weapons qualifications, first aid/CPR and National Incident Management System training.
  • This is a Term position intended to last 2 years. Position may be filled as a time-limited promotion, reassignment or change to lower grade not to exceed 2 Years by a current permanent Army employee.
  • Time-limited promotions may be extended up to a maximum of five years. Time-limited reassignments and changes to lower grade may exceed five years, however return rights may be impacted. Position may be made permanent without further competition.
  • Term employment is subject to a one year trial period. Employees serving a trial period can be removed with limited appeal rights.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: 1) Experience with law enforcement operations, practices and techniques performing criminal investigative duties, experience with search and apprehension authority, detaining witnesses, apprehending suspects, interviewing witnesses and other persons involved; 2) Experience in collecting and preserving evidence, conducting long and short-term investigations on criminal cases; AND 3) Experience in providing sworn testimony based on the investigative process, evidence gathered and witness' statements. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-08).

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-07).

Education

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone -- no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
