Job Description

Duties

  • Take the lead on investigations in the absence of the Detective or when case load demands.
  • Lead assigned Field Training Officers in the performance of their duties which include observing, evaluating, and documenting probationary officers' performance.
  • Respond to emergency calls, exercise arrest authority, investigate incidents reported, take statements, and develop leads by interviewing persons involved.
  • Report training accomplishments and submit required training reports to higher headquarters in a timely manner.
  • Evaluate students' overall success or failure, including their progress at certain points in the learning process.
  • Perform general law enforcement support activities such as preparing reports and composing statements.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Works call back and/or emergency overtime when required.
  • Works rotating shifts to include weekends and holidays when required.
  • Position is Mission Essential IAW DoDI 3020.42.
  • Occasional travel may be required.
  • Must be able to wear chemical protection masks, gloves, and other associated equipment.
  • Must be able to pass periodic medical examination (physical, emotional and mental stability, etc.)
  • Must be able to pass periodic physical agility test requirements.
  • Must be able to maintain a valid state driver's license.
  • Must have successfully graduated from Department of Army Civilian Police Academy or be willing to graduate from the Department of Army Civilian Police Academy.
  • Must meet all mandatory requirements of AR 190-56.
  • Maintain requirements of Individual Reliability Program (IRP) IAW AR 190-56.
  • Required to meet proficiency requirements in specialized weapons and unarmed self-defense.
  • Be qualified and certified in the use of chemical aerosol irritants, tear gas, and radar gun.
  • Must have state certification, if required, for radar and breathalyzer operations
  • This position is covered by the 1996 Lautenberg Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968. Persons convicted of a misdemeanor or felony crime of domestic violence are not eligible for the position.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance.
  • This position requires certification in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) with Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) training.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. I have one year of specialized experience at the GS-07 grade level which includes revising tests for law enforcement training courses; evaluating students' progress through the learning process; and publishing an annual training schedule; performing police duties to enforce federal laws; conducting investigations of crimes and reported incidents; and responding to emergency calls.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-07).
