Duties
As a MACHINIST, WG-3414-12, you will plan and lay out work to be accomplished in the shop, which is then completed by the individual and lower-graded worker(s). Possess the knowledge and skills found at the journeyman level, as well as those required for planning, accomplishing, and maintaining a functional shop maintenance program. Independently determine appropriate maintenance procedures, such as how and when the work should be accomplished. Estimates manpower, equipment, and material requirements. Devises and maintains program plans and records, is skilled in surveillance and troubleshooting techniques, and is able to determine maintenance/repair procedures needed without the benefit of technical supervisory guidance. Plans, organizes, and directs shop maintenance programs/procedures under general supervision. Determines approaches, methods, and courses of action required to accomplish the mission of the shop in an effective and efficient manner. Performs the same type and level of work as performed within the unit. Performs other duties as assigned.
Work Schedule: This position works on a 4/10's compressed work schedule with four 10-hour days, Tuesday-Friday each week of the pay period. Work schedule is subject to change based on mission requirements.

GENERAL EXPERIENCE : Must have the knowledge to manufacture complex and non-routine parts and items of equipment from raw stock of different metals, metal alloys, and other materials. Work products are typically one-of-a-kind, involving unusual trade problems and requiring a high degree of ingenuity and responsibility.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE : Experience or training performing the full range of machining operations on most types of conventional or CNC machine tools and their various attachments. Experience or training in planning and lay out work from blueprints, worksheets and other drawings that may have missing or incorrect information. Skill in applying shop mathematics in establishing needed dimensions, such as those required for chasing threads or machining angular surfaces; locating and marking surfaces and angles to be machined. Skill in programming machining operations, setting up and operating CNC machine tools. Knowledge of and ability to apply advanced shop mathematics such as geometric and trigonometric formulas to make computation for laying out work, machining pieces at unusual or compound angles, determining gear ratios pitch, angles and other similar exact or precision dimension.

- KANSAS NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED.
- This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing state's National Guard, required prior to the effective date of placement.
- Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform.
- Acceptance of an excepted service position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment.
- Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
- Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation.
- May be required to successfully complete a probationary period.
