Physical Security Specialist

Duties

• Advise the Director of Emergency Services on all physical security matters.
• Responsible for the implementation of policies and development of procedures for the physical protection of IMCOM and tenant activities facilities.
• Coordinate with other installation elements and other agencies in the preparation of emergency plans (i.e., bomb threats, disaster plans, etc.)
• Advisory member to engineer master plan construction committee.
• Monitor the key control system, mobility badge system and security exchange badge system to insure adequacy and regulatory compliance.
• Coordinates operations of the Visitor Control Center (VCC).
• Assists the Security Manager in coordinating the installation's countering terrorism plan.
• Inspect and monitor installed Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS), Automated Installation Entry (AIE) System.
• Present orientations and classes on physical security to security representatives/activity personnel.

• Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
• This position requires the incumbent obtain the following core SPeD Certification: Security Fundamentals Professional Certification (SFPC) within their first two years of employment.
• Incumbent must be able to obtain and hold a SECRET personnel security clearance.
• May require Temporary Duty travel (TDY) up to 20%.
• During crisis situations may be required to work other than normal duty hours that may include evenings, weekends, and/or holidays and overtime.
• This position requires the employee to drive a motor vehicle. An appropriate, valid driver's license is required for the position.
• Incumbent is required to submit a Confidential Financial Disclosure Report, OGE-450, (5CFR Part 2634, Subpart I Confidential Financial Disclosure Reports) upon entering the position and annually.
• This position requires the incumbent obtain the following core SPeD certification within their first two years of employment Physical Security Certification.
• This is a drug testing designated position (TDP) under the Department of the Army Drug-Free Federal Workplace Program in accordance with AR 600-85.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: Planning, coordinating, and completing tasks related to the mission of an organization's physical security office; reviewing, evaluating, and/or maintaining physical security directives from higher authority; and implementing policies, procedures and methods used for safeguarding information, property, personnel, operations and/or materials. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09).

Education: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as Security Administration or National Security Studies.

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-09).
