Overview

CommIT Enterprises, Inc. is seeking a Senior VMware Virtualization Engineer to join the team in Quantico, VA. In this role, the ideal candidate will provide senior-level support for the client's virtual infrastructure, which consists of over 300 VMware ESXi hosts on unclassified and classified networks. This role is responsible for maintaining the health, performance, and security of the virtual environment, providing capacity planning, and resolving escalated incidents. The candidate is part of a team that works with client customers and product vendors on configuration of features and functionality; documenting best practices and internal processes for internal training; assisting with change management and documentation of environments; working with a dedicated team to ensure success of select customer groups, including VIPs; and ensuring customer uptime through precise monitoring implementations, good change management, and incorporation of best practices.

Our enterprise systems support includes the Department of Defense's (DoD) GCSS-MC, CAC2S, TBMCS-MC, and the Department of Veteran's Affairs' (VA) telehealth communications. Responsibilities

Your essential job functions will include but may not be limited to-
  • Maintain the overall health of technologies associated with the Virtual Infrastructure (VI), including performing required system maintenance.
  • Provide senior-level support for VMware technologies including vSphere, vCenter, ESXi, and vSAN.
  • Manage and maintain virtual machines, provide capacity planning and resource allocation.
  • Utilize VMware Aria Operations for monitoring and performance tuning.
  • Resolve escalated VI-related tickets from service desk components.
  • Provide documentation, guidance, and instruction to Tier I/II support for handling standard VI-related incidents.
  • Submit and execute VI-related Requests for Change (RFC) and participate in Change Review Boards.
  • Provide project support for VI-related technologies and coordinate with engineering teams on new initiatives.
  • Escalate product issues to third-party vendors upon government approval.
  • Provide analysis and remediation for DISA STIGs in support of formal inspections.

Qualifications

Required Experience, Certifications, and Education:
  • IAT Level III (CISA, GCIH, GCED, CASP, or CISSP (or Associate), GSLC, or CISM)
  • VCDX5-DCV
  • ITIL v4 Foundations
  • Senior-level experience with designing, implementing, and managing large-scale VMware environments.
  • In-depth knowledge of VMware technologies: vSphere, vCenter, ESXi, and vSAN.
  • Experience with VMware Aria Operations (vROps) for monitoring.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft and Red Hat Server operating systems.
  • Familiarity with NetApp storage and its integration with VMware.
  • Knowledge of DISA STIGs and security hardening for virtual environments.

Preferred Skills:
  • Experience with on-call support for incident handling and maintenance events.
  • Advanced VMware certifications (e.g., VCAP, VCDX).


Physical Demands and Work Environment:
  • Environmental Conditions: General office environment. Work is generally sedentary in nature but may require standing and walking for up to 10% of the time. The working environment is generally favorable. Lighting and temperature are adequate, and there are not hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. Work is generally performed within an office environment, with standard office equipment available. Contractor site with 0-10% travel possible. Possible off-hours work to support releases and outages.
  • Strength Demands: 10 lbs. maximum lifting, occasional lift/carry of small articles.
  • Physical Requirements: Occasionally required to stand; frequently required to walk and sit. Continually required to utilize hand and finger dexterity. Occasionally required to climb, balance, bend, stoop, kneel or crawl. Continually required to talk or hear. Continually utilize visual acuity to operate equipment, read technical information, and/or use a keyboard.
