Overview
Omega Technical Services is seeking an experienced Instrumentation & Controls (I&C) Engineer to support advanced reactor system development at the Idaho National Laboratory (INL), specifically within the Materials and Fuels Complex (MFC).
INL is recognized as the lead national laboratory for DOE-NE, providing much of the nuclear research, development, and demonstration capability needed to move nuclear innovation forward to deployment. MFC works jointly with the National Reactor Innovation Center (NRIC) to bring advanced micro reactors to INL.
This role will support design and system engineering efforts for advanced microreactor technologies, contributing to cutting-edge nuclear innovation initiatives. The I&C Engineer will apply engineering principles and best practices to design, develop, implement, and maintain instrumentation and control systems within a highly regulated nuclear environment.

Responsibilities
- Responsible to define requirements and develop design concepts by communicating with the customer to understand customer requirements and identify design goals.
- Create engineering designs, drawings, specifications, and implementation documents to meet customer's design inputs.
- Ensure calculations and evaluations to meet design requirements are adequately completed and documented, self-performing in area of expertise or providing oversight of others outside area of expertise.
- Implement designs by supporting procurement of materials/equipment/services, reviewing and approving work packages, and following construction activities.
- Verify design and implementation by presenting and/or participating in design reviews.
- Develop and execute qualification/startup testing procedures for assigned systems and projects.
- Follow assigned system through equipment life. Implement appropriate maintenance and modification to ensure system operational readiness.
- Verify and maintain the technical content of System Configuration information to be accurate and adequate. This includes verifying consistency between the design requirements, the physical configuration and the System Configuration information documentation.
Education Requirements
- Bachelor of Science in I&C Engineering or other engineering related field with minimum of 5 years of experience, or a Master of Science Degree in I&C Engineering and minimum 3 years of experience. Requires degree from an ABET accredited program.
Qualifications
- Ability to design, analyze and evaluate systems.
- Ability to communicate with operations, engineering, nuclear safety, maintenance, and programmatic personnel both verbally and through written means.
- Ability to identify and execute engineering work tasks such as design efforts, maintenance activities and operating written instructions.
- Ability to plan, organize, and lead engineering work.
- Candidate must be a U.S. Citizen.
- Candidate must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Security Clearance.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in the design and installation of nuclear reactor instrument and controls systems.
- Experience with configuration management of drawings and engineering documentation.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with accurate attention to detail.
