Job Description

Position: Senior Systems Engineer (SETA) – Space/Ground Communications Systems

Location: Chantilly, VA

Clearance: Active TS/SCI clearance with CI Polygraph required

Overview: Provides systems engineering support to the Program Office for complex space-to-ground communications systems, including ground segment integration, operational readiness, anomaly resolution, and transition to operations activities across globally distributed sites.

Core Responsibilities:
• Lead engagement and integration of satellite system users into multiple complex space and ground communication systems
• Evaluate space-ground system requirements, interfaces, and performance, including ground communications links and antenna capabilities
• Assess system readiness for launch, test, and operational deployment
• Provide technical analysis and recommendations for space-ground and on-orbit anomalies
• Lead and facilitate ground operations assessments, status reviews, and configuration management boards

Additional Responsibilities:
• Lead technical transition of a global ground communications system (7–10 sites) to an Operations organization
• Define and evaluate Key Performance Parameters (KPPs) and operational metrics to assess system performance and transition readiness
• Provide technical guidance across Acquisition, Operations, and Communications organizations to address transition blockers and align Concept of Operations (ConOps)
• Coordinate multi-site integration activities, configuration alignment, and readiness events
• Manage transition schedule, technical dependencies, and risk items across engineering and test teams

Required Skills / Experience:
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Physics, or related technical field
• 8–10 years of relevant systems engineering experience, preferably supporting space or ground communications systems
• Extensive experience in satellite ground systems and space-to-ground communications
• Strong background in systems engineering, requirements, and interface analysis
• Experience with anomaly investigation and operational troubleshooting
• Familiarity with launch readiness, test, and transition to operations processes
• Ability to work across multiple organizations and stakeholders in a SETA environment

This role requires significant mission familiarity and experience working across multiple organizations, and is best filled by a senior engineer with prior space-ground systems experience.
