Hardware–Software Integration and Installation Engineer
Location: San Diego, CA (On-site only)
Salary Range: $95,000–$115,000
Travel: Yes – CONUS and OCONUS as required
Clearance Required: Active Secret

Position Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled Hardware–Software Integration and Installation Engineer to support Navy and Marine Corps Meteorology and Oceanography (METOC) In-Service Engineering programs. This role focuses on the integration, installation, testing, maintenance, and sustainment of complex shipboard systems that combine hardware, software, and hybrid web/cloud components.
The ideal candidate brings a strong systems-level mindset, hands-on technical expertise, and experience working in DoD environments. This position works closely with engineering teams and end users to ensure systems are secure, reliable, mission-ready, and compliant with DoD cybersecurity standards.

Key Responsibilities
System Integration & Sustainment
Provide technical and engineering support across the full lifecycle of METOC systems, including design, integration, testing, deployment, and maintenance
Support Fleet Technical Sustainment Support (TSS) and post-deployment readiness
Integrate network operating systems, applications, and hardware into fully functional systems
Manage hybrid software, hardware, and web-based systems from concept through sustainment
Installation, Testing & Troubleshooting
Perform shipboard hardware and software installations
Conduct system-level troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and corrective actions for complex technical issues
Perform System Operational Verification Tests (SOVTs) and support Casualty Reports
Inspect, repair, overhaul, and validate system performance to return systems to full operational status
Deliver in-person technical support at customer locations worldwide
Software & Cybersecurity
Maintain and update system software and firmware, including OS and application upgrades
Develop and test automation scripts for patch deployments
Perform software testing and validation; manage version control and configuration tracking
Identify, test, and apply security patches and mitigations
Support system hardening, DISA STIG compliance, vulnerability scanning, and C&A documentation
Documentation & Configuration Management
Develop and maintain technical documentation, including manuals, specifications, schematics, reports, and test plans
Record test data, analyze results, and produce formal reports
Support configuration management and change control processes
Maintain compliance with government quality and procedural standards
Engineering Support
Assist with engineering analysis and redesign of obsolete or unsupported components
Construct and evaluate prototype or experimental models
Work independently or collaboratively on moderately complex engineering projects
Provide technical guidance and assist junior technicians as needed
Required Qualifications
Education & Experience (one of the following):Bachelor’s degree and 5+ years of hardware/software integration experience in a shipboard environment
High school diploma and 10+ years of related experience
Active Secret Security Clearance
CompTIA Security+ (or equivalent)
DoD 8570 IAT Level II compliance
Hands-on experience with Windows and/or Linux system administration
Experience with scripting and automation
Familiarity with DISA STIGs, patch management, and DoD cybersecurity requirements
Experience using software version control and issue-tracking tools
Desired Skills
Strong technical documentation and communication skills
Ability to work effectively with senior leadership and junior enlisted personnel
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
Proven ability to work in small, multidisciplinary teams
Education (Preferred)
Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative field such as:
