Conditions of employment
Position may be filled as a time-limited promotion, reassignment or change to lower grade not to exceed 2 years by a current permanent Army employee. Time-limited promotions may be extended up to a maximum of five years. Time-limited reassignments and changes to lower grade may exceed five years, however return rights may be impacted. Position may be made permanent without further competition.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes making assignments ranging from weekly range/live fire to special event schedules; being available for advice and guidance on unusual or unprecedented problems encountered, relying on incumbent to independently plan, organize, and complete assignments within the framework of schedules, current policies, and regulations; evaluating performance through review, technical soundness of solutions achieved, and compliance with accepted safety policies and procedures. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).

Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as Education.

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages.

FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university. Additional information
- Review and compare the daily range schedule, unit OIC/RSO and weapons certification memoranda, SOPs, firing orders, on file Range Risk Assessments, SDZ/WDZ overlays, firing data and diagrams, and barrier plans for direct and indirect live fire.
- Supervise Range inspectors to monitor the issuance, opening, check fire, cease fire, and closing of all live fire ranges, artillery, artillery and mortar firing points, landing zones, parachute drop zones, training facilities, and training areas.
- Serve as a liaison between using unit, Range Operations, and higher headquarters in order to resolve scheduling conflicts. Responds to commanders' inquiries for training issues and serious events.
- Visual inspection of all Training devices and required doctrinal equipment was serviceable and available.
- Assign work to subordinates based on priorities, selective consideration of the difficulty and requirements of assignments, and the capabilities of employees.
- Determine work to be accomplished by subordinates, sets and adjusts short-term priorities, and prepares schedules for completion of work.

- The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
- This position is subject to the provisions of the Domestic Violence Offender Gun Ban commonly referred to as the Lautenberg Amendment. Bans individuals convicted of misdemeanor domestic violence from possession or access to firearms or ammunition.
- This position is subject to a drug pre-employment screening, and random drug testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
- This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations. Employee shifts are rotated on a regularly scheduled basis.
- This position may require the incumbent to be exposed to the dangers of live fire ranges, pyrotechnics, laser frequencies and explosives as well as be exposed to snakes, biting flies, bees, mosquitoes and other varmits.
- This position may require the incumbent to work inside and outside during all types of weather conditions on ranges with rough terrain.
- A one year probation to assess your ability to perform supervisory duties is required unless previously completed
