Waypoint's client is seeking an Information System Security Officer (ISSO) / Cybersecurity Engineer to support tactical network cybersecurity efforts within a DoD environment. This role provides expertise in cybersecurity architecture, Risk Management Framework (RMF), and system authorization activities, ensuring systems meet federal and DoD security requirements.
The selected candidate will support certification and accreditation efforts, continuous monitoring, and vulnerability management while collaborating with engineering teams to ensure secure system design and operational readiness.

This role provides expertise in cybersecurity architecture, Risk Management Framework (RMF), and system authorization activities, ensuring systems meet federal and DoD security requirements.
The selected candidate will support certification and accreditation efforts, continuous monitoring, and vulnerability management while collaborating with engineering teams to ensure secure system design and operational readiness.
Responsibilities:
- Support Certification & Accreditation (C&A) activities and prepare documentation required to achieve and maintain Authority to Operate (ATO).
- Process systems through the Risk Management Framework (RMF) and maintain records within eMASS.
- Manage continuous monitoring activities, including updates to Plan of Action and Milestones (POA&M).
- Collaborate with engineering teams to ensure system designs meet RMF and security control requirements.
- Support implementation of Identity and Access Management (IAM), Public Key Infrastructure (PKI), and defensive cyber capabilities.
- Conduct and oversee vulnerability scans using tools such as ACAS and Nessus.
- Analyze scan results and test data to identify vulnerabilities and assess residual risk.
- Develop scripts (e.g., Python, Bash, Batch) to support automation of patching and system hardening.
- Provide input on cybersecurity strategies, policies, and system security posture to support operational readiness.
Required:
- U.S. Citizenship.
- Active Secret clearance (Interim or Final required).
- Bachelor's degree in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or related field (or 5 additional years of related experience in lieu of degree) .
- Minimum 5+ years of experience supporting DoD cybersecurity authorization or engineering activities.
- DoD-approved cybersecurity certification such as CISSP, CISM, CAP, CEH, or equivalent.
- Experience supporting RMF processes and ATO activities.
- Experience with vulnerability scanning tools (e.g., ACAS, Nessus).
- Experience with patch management and security tools (e.g., WSUS, McAfee ESM, firewalls, IDS/IPS, web filtering).
Desired:
- Experience developing and maintaining RMF documentation, including POA&Ms.
- Knowledge of FISMA compliance and Army cybersecurity frameworks.
- Experience with advanced IA tools and security scanning technologies.
- Experience supporting tactical network or DoD operational environments.
