Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Information System Security Engineer (ISSE) to support cybersecurity engineering activities across mission-critical U.S. Air Force systems. This role focuses on integrating cybersecurity into system architecture, supporting Risk Management Framework (RMF) authorization activities, and ensuring security principles are embedded throughout the system lifecycle.

The selected candidate will serve in an IASAE-designated cybersecurity engineering position, supporting system authorization efforts while ensuring compliance with Air Force and DoD cybersecurity policies and standards.

Key Responsibilities

The ISSE will support cybersecurity engineering and RMF implementation across assigned systems and applications, including:

-Supporting Authorization & Accreditation (A&A) efforts in accordance with DoD RMF
-Assessing the completeness and technical accuracy of RMF artifacts and authorization documentation
-Integrating cybersecurity controls into system architecture, engineering design, and lifecycle activities
-Conducting risk and vulnerability assessments to identify protection needs and mitigation strategies
-Recommending security policies and procedures to ensure reliability, integrity, and availability of information systems
-Supporting system security evaluations, audits, and compliance reviews
-Participating in network and system design activities to ensure cybersecurity requirements are implemented appropriately
-Assessing cybersecurity events and supporting corrective action implementation
-Supporting development of contingency planning and disaster recovery strategies
-Promoting cybersecurity awareness across engineering and program teams
-Supporting implementation of programs ensuring compliance with cybersecurity policies and procedures
-Ensuring rigorous application of cybersecurity principles across delivered IT capabilities
-Supporting evidence collection and preservation activities related to cybersecurity investigations when required

-Will perform other duties as assigned.

This role performs Information System Security Engineer (ISSE) duties within an Information Assurance Workforce System Architecture and Engineering (IASAE) position in accordance with:

AFI 33-200
AFI 33-210
AFMAN 33-285
DoDI 8510.01 (RMF)

The ISSE works closely with program leadership, ISSMs, ISSOs, and system owners to support successful authorization outcomes.

Required Qualifications

Candidates must meet one of the following experience pathways:

BA/BS + 15 years cybersecurity experience, including 5 years supporting DoD systems, OR
MA/MS + 12 years cybersecurity experience, including 5 years supporting DoD systems, OR
20 years directly related cybersecurity experience, including 8 years supporting DoD systems, with appropriate certifications

Additionally required:

-Active Secret Security Clearance-Demonstrated experience supporting RMF authorization lifecycle activities

-Must be a U.S. Citizen

-Experience integrating cybersecurity controls into system engineering and architecture processes

-Familiarity with Air Force cybersecurity policy and secure system lifecycle implementation

-Required Certifications

Must meet DoD 8570.01-M IASAE baseline certification requirements, including one of the following:

CISSP (or Associate)
CISM
GSLC
CCISO

The expected annual salary range: $180k - $190k. Salary is dependent upon the role and associated responsibilities, candidate's experience, and qualifications to include education/training, and key skills.
