Job Description

AFO is looking for a Material Coordinator to work at Fort Sill, OK. The Material Coordinator (Freight Rate Specialist) supports the Freight Cargo Movements Office at Fort Sill, OK. The position coordinates the preparation, routing, classification, documentation, and tracking of government freight shipments using Army and DoD transportation systems. Responsibilities

  • Performs freight classification, determines appropriate mode of transportation, and selects cost-effective carriers in compliance with DoD and federal regulations.
  • Prepares, reviews, and processes Bills of Lading (BOL) in the CONUS Freight Management Systems (CMOS, GFM) or other automated tools.
  • Monitors and evaluates commercial carrier performance and reports issues to management.
  • Applies transportation tenders and selects the most economical and quality service option for Government freight.
  • Ensures documentation is date/time stamped and forwarded according to audit and accountability requirements.
  • Submits all required freight documentation to the Defense Finance and Accounting Service (DFAS).
  • Validates charges and financial data in the Third-Party Payment System (TPPS/SYNCADA).
  • Provides technical assistance to customers on transportation methods, freight preparation, and routing requirements.
  • Serves as a certified Hazardous Materials Shipper; must complete and maintain the 80-hour DoD Hazmat Certifier Course.
    Traces inbound and outbound freight, resolving delays, shortages, or missing cargo.
  • Processes rail shipments, including BOL preparation and use of rail service provider automated systems.
  • Maintains statistical data, prepares recurring reports, and supports audits and compliance reviews.
  • Performs related duties as assigned in support of freight operations.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Ability to operate computers and logistics software; proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Knowledge of freight documentation, BOL preparation, and transportation regulations.
  • Ability to complete and maintain DoD Hazardous Materials certification.
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records and work with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and process military orders accurately.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in office software and equipment.
  • Ability to multitask, manage time effectively, and maintain accuracy in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and follow military administrative protocols.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Two (2) years of experience in industrial, commercial, or government freight operations.
  • Ability to pass Pre-Employment Drug Test and Background Screening.
  • Applicant must possess a REAL ID-compliant, state-issued driver's license.
  • Ability to be favorably adjudicated for, and maintain, a Secret Clearance.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a CAC.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Eligible incumbent in good standing is highly desirable.
  • Coursework or training in cargo movement (military or civilian) preferred.
  • Experience in military logistics or freight cargo movement preferred.
  • Knowledge of military forms, shipment documentation, or freight processes is highly desirable.
  • Experience in a Freight Cargo Movement or similar transportation/logistics environment preferred.
  • Familiarity with military documentation or transportation regulations.

Physical Demands:
  • Regularly required to sit, talk, listen, and use hands for repetitive motions.
  • Occasionally required to walk, stand, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds independently; heavier items handled with assistance. Must maintain adequate vision for reading and computer use.
