Job Summary:
The Security Specialist serves as the Alternate Facility Security Officer (FSO) and supports the Director of Security in maintaining compliance with all security requirements under the National Industrial Security Program Operating Manual (NISPOM). This role is responsible for assisting with personnel security clearances, safeguarding classified materials, and ensuring the integrity and security of facilities, safes, and secure files. The Security Specialist plays a key role in supporting the ongoing security operations for all cleared employees and secure workspaces.
Key Responsibilities:
Personnel Security (PERSEC):
- Assist in initiating, processing, and maintaining security clearances for cleared personnel using DISS, NISS, and other relevant systems
- Maintain and update personnel security files in accordance with applicable regulations
- Monitor reinvestigations and clearance status; track and report on clearance activity
Facility and Information Security (PHYSEC & INFOSEC):
- Support the Director in managing access to secure areas, safes, and classified storage
- Maintain records of classified material holdings and ensure compliance with control and accountability procedures
- Conduct regular security inspections and audits to ensure facility compliance with government and company standards
- Assist in administering visitor access and badging for secure areas
Program Support & Compliance:
- Provide support in preparing for and responding to government security inspections or audits
- Assist in the development, maintenance, and communication of security policies and procedures
- Stay up to date with regulatory changes and best practices; support the continuous improvement of the security program
Training & Communication:
- Support the delivery of initial and annual security briefings to employees
- Provide guidance and training to staff on security practices and responsibilities
- Act as a backup point of contact for security-related questions and emergencies
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor's degree in related field
- Experience: 3-10 years of experience working in industrial security or a government security environment
- Clearance: Top Secret with SCI eligibility
- Required Skills:
- Experience with DISS, NISS, EAPP, NBISS and 32 CFR 117 (NISPOM) compliance is preferred
- Working knowledge of32 CFR 117 (NISPOM) and other security regulations
- Proficient in managing secure documentation and classified materials
- High attention to detail and organizational skills
- Strong verbal and written communication abilities
- Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and professionalism
- Skilled in MS Office Suite and security-related platforms (DISS,NBISS,NISS,EAPP)
- Preferred Skills:
- Completion of FSO training (CDSE FSO Program Management for Possessing Facilities)
- Familiarity with COMSEC procedures
- Previous experience supporting a cleared facility environment
Work Environment/Physical Requirements:
This position operates in a professional office setting with occasional access to secure and restricted areas. May require limited travel to attend training or conduct security inspections.
Work Schedule:
Full-time, Monday through Friday during regular business hours. Some flexibility may be required for urgent security matters or inspections.
