Job Description

The Freight Supervisor oversees daily freight operations supporting the Fort Sill Logistics Readiness Center. This position is responsible for planning, coordinating, and executing freight transportation activities, ensuring regulatory compliance, and supervising personnel engaged in carrier procurement, routing, rail operations, container management, and freight documentation. The supervisor ensures timely movement of domestic and international freight while maintaining safety, accountability, and operational efficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, develop, and implement procedures and methods for determining the appropriate mode of transportation for freight.
  • Prepare and submit daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual reports.
  • Supervise personnel involved in procuring common carriers and transportation services by rail, motor, air, and other modes.
  • Issue Commercial Bills of Lading (CBL) and secure routings using CFM-ETA, CMOS, and other automated systems.
  • Plan and submit volume moves to SDDC for rating and routing.
  • Validate charges and funding in the SYNCADA system.
  • Initiate tracer actions and prepare reports of survey for over/short or damaged government freight.
  • Maintain required registers, logs, and files; compile statistical data and prepare correspondence.
  • Coordinate workflow with Supply and unit stakeholders to prevent delays and warehouse congestion.
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local transportation regulations.
  • Provide technical guidance on freight classifications, tariffs, demurrage rules, equipment registers, and carrier rating directories.
  • Manage the ISO container (MILVAN) program using the Joint Container Module (JCM) and support the Defense Freight Railway Interchange Fleet (DFRIF).
  • Coordinate with carrier representatives to expedite service and resolve issues.
  • Secure funding validation (FVUA) prior to shipment release.
  • Perform packing and crating assessments and support rail loading operations.
  • Provide line-haul support and assist with loading/unloading truckload and LTL freight.
  • Support rail movements across the installation.
  • Lift and carry items up to 150 pounds with assistance; work in extreme temperatures, dust, and varying weather conditions.
  • Lead weekly safety meetings and enforce compliance with all safety and health requirements.
  • Manage staff scheduling, PTO approvals, and participate in hiring and recruiting.
  • Maintain effective working relationships and perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Ability to read, interpret, and process tasks to successfully support of military orders accurately.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in office software and equipment.
  • Ability to multitask, manage time effectively, and maintain accuracy in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and follow military administrative protocols.

Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Three years of experience in freight rate and traffic work, rail and yard operations, and terminal/warehouse operations.
  • Mission-oriented and customer service-oriented mindset.
  • Proficiency with computers, including word processing, spreadsheets, and transportation systems.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to pass Pre-Employment Drug Test and Background Screening.
  • Applicant must possess a REAL ID-compliant, state-issued driver's license.
  • Ability to be favorably adjudicated for, and maintain, a Secret Clearance.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a CAC.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Eligible incumbent in good standing is highly desirable.
  • Experience using systems such as CFMETA, CMOS, SYNCADA, JCM, or similar freight management tools.
  • Working knowledge of commercial freight classifications, tariffs, routing guides, and DoD freight regulations.
  • Prior experience supporting military logistics or government freight programs.
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise teams in fast-paced transportation environments.
  • Completion of civilian or military coursework in transportation or management.
  • Five (5) years of supervisory experience.

Physical Demands:

Regularly required to sit, talk, listen, and use hands for repetitive motions. Occasionally required to walk, stand, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds independently; heavier items handled with assistance. Must maintain adequate vision for reading and computer use.
