Job Description

Duties

As a SUPPLY TECHNICIAN (TITLE 32), GS-2005-5/6/7, you will act as the focal point for customer assistance in the resolution of supply and service problems and complaints. Act as a technical expert in various supply and service areas such as subsistence, ammunition, excess, Petroleum, Oils and Lubricants (POL), turn-in, federal property and related reports of survey.Major Duties - This is NOT an all-inclusive list:
  • Identify and resolve customer complaints such as lost shipments, issue shortages, back orders on priority requisitions, erroneously canceled requisitions, excessive order shipment times, warehouse refusals, etc.
  • Follow up to ensure issues have been resolved to the satisfaction of the customer and supervisor.
  • Make regular contact and visit with other USPFO activities, maintenance activities, supported units, inventory control points, supply activities from other states, and higher headquarters to gather information and resolve supply problems.
  • Research such areas as document flow and control, report accuracy, funds utilization, priority management and regulatory compliance.
  • Analyze customer complaints for trends or evidence of systemic problems.
  • Support mobilization mission of logistical support for units mobilizing for federal missions.
  • Provide input to supervisors and program managers to correct procedural problems on automation and improve overall operations.
  • Recommend corrective action and/or advise the Supply System Analyst of problems requiring in depth systematic analysis.
  • Serve as the point of contact for customers with supply and service problems.

  • This is an excepted service position that requires membership in the Illinois National Guard and in the military grade listed in the announcement.   • This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968. An individual convicted of a qualifying crime of domestic violence may not perform the duties of this position.
  • Irregular and/or overtime (compensatory) hours may be required to support operational requirements or contingencies or may be required to work hours outside of the normal duty day.
  • Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.
  • **INDEFINITE POSITION - MAY NOT BECOME PERMANENT** This position is a time limited indefinite resource. Permanent employees that apply, if selected, will lose permanent tenure.
Qualifications

AREA OF CONSIDERATION: The areas of consideration for this position, Title 32 Excepted Service (32 U.S. Code § 709), will be in the following manner and sequence:
  • The FIRST area of consideration for this position will be all excepted permanent and indefinite temporary technicians within the ILNG.
  • The SECOND area of consideration will be all current Federal Employees.
  • The THIRD area of consideration will be all Federal re-employment eligible.
  • The FOURTH area of consideration will be applicants willing to become T32 Dual Status Technicians and gain ILNG membership.
  • The FIFTH area of consideration will be U.S. Citizens.
Military Grades: Not to exceed rank of WO1.

GENERAL EXPERIENCE : Must possess experience, education, or training in a variety of operations or situations concerned with substance or content of supply actions, requiring ability to decide course of action to take, considering the circumstances or conditions encountered and experience using computer and automation systems.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE : GS-07 Level- Must possess specialized experience which includes at least 12 months at the lower-level GS-06 experience, education, or training which demonstrates a thorough knowledge of governing supply regulations, policies, procedures, and instructions applicable to the specific assignment; experience conducting extensive searches for required information, reconstructing records for complex supply transactions and/or providing supply operations support for activities involving specialized or unique supplies, equipment, or parts; experience performing routine aspects of supply work based on practical knowledge of standard procedures, where assignments included individual case problems related to a limited segment in one of the major areas of supply management. GS-06 Level- Must possess specialized experience which includes at least 12 months at the lower-level GS-05 experience, education, or training which demonstrates knowledge of governing supply regulations, policies, procedures, and instructions applicable to the specific assignment; experience conducting searches for required information, reconstructing records for routine supply transactions and/or providing supply operations support for activities involving specialized or unique supplies, equipment, and parts; experience performing routine aspects of supply specialist work based on practical knowledge of standard procedures, where assignments included individual case problems related to a limited segment in one of the major areas of supply management. GS-05 Level- Must possess specialized experience which includes experience, education, or training which demonstrates knowledge of standardized supply regulations, policies, procedures, or other instructions relating to the specific functions assigned; experience that demonstrates knowledge of one or more automated supply databases to enter and retrieve recurring reports; experience using working knowledge of the structure of a supply organization and the organizations serviced.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Education

Substitution of Education for Specialized Experience Completion of 2 academic years of education in an accredited college or university will satisfy the requirements for GS-4 positions. Only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours (i.e., beyond the second year) is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement. One full academic year of study (30 semester hours) beyond the second year is equivalent to 6 months of specialized experience for GS-5 positions
