Job Description
SMX is looking for a talented Communications Program Systems Engineer to join our team supporting the PEO Tactical Information Systems (PEO-TIS) portfolio. In this role, you'll play a vital part in advancing Software Defined Radio (SDR) technologies and resilient waveforms that support SOF missions, helping modernize and harden our nation's command and control capabilities.
This position requires a DoD TS/SCI security clearance which requires US citizenship for work on DoD contracts.

What You'll Do:
- Serve as the primary technical architect for the PEO-TIS portfolio
- Synchronize efforts between tactical radio programs and enterprise information systems for a unified "system of systems" approach
- Lead engineering, testing, and deployment of cutting-edge RF and SDR waveform solutions
- Integrate encryption, frequency-hopping, MANET, Link-16, and SADL capabilities into current and future SOF platforms
- Identify technical gaps and recommend innovative solutions to meet SOF needs
- Guide systems engineering plans throughout the full acquisition lifecycle (PDR, CDR, FCA/PCA)
- Manage system configuration and quality control, including Engineering Review Boards
- Act as a key technical liaison between program managers, vendors, and SOF stakeholders
- Review engineering costs and identify opportunities for efficiency and reliability
What We're Looking For:
- Demonstrated experience with SDR waveforms and tactical radio systems (like PRC-148, PRC-152, PRC-163)
- Strong background in government Test & Evaluation processes, including documentation
- Familiarity with tactical data links, MANET, TRAX, and multi-domain SOF operations
- Experience with incident/problem management and integrating new technologies into legacy systems
- Proficiency with Microsoft Visio/Project; experience with eMASS or RMF is a plus
- Active TS/SCI security clearance
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, Communications, or Systems Engineering (Master's preferred)
- 5-10 years in DoD Acquisition or Systems Engineering
- Experience leading technical teams in fast-paced, joint environments
