Job Description

Duties

  • Performs the full spectrum of police officer duties within the assigned jurisdictions.
  • Conducts investigations of crimes and complaints covering a wide range of subjects and allegations that are not within the scope of Air Force Office of Special Investigations (AFOSI) or the scope of the higher level detectives assigned to the Squadron.
  • Serves as the primary command and control (C2) function for all Integrated Defense forces.
  • Performs emergency response and incident command and control.

  • This is a Mission-Essential position performing a Mission-Critical-Function which must continue uninterrupted after the occurrence of an emergency and continued through full resumption of all functions.
  • Position may require use firearms or ammunition; sell or dispose of firearms or ammunition; receive, possess, ship or transport firearms; or other activities covered by the Gun Control Act. Must have no convictions of a crime of domestic violence.
  • Must pass an initial pre-employment medical examination, periodic medical examinations, required initial and annual physical fitness/physical agility tests, meet established hearing standards and discern colors, contrast, and depth.
  • This position requires the performance of a Physical Agility Test which reflects the bona-fide occupational physical qualifications for the position.
  • The incumbent must wear a DAF Police Officer uniform as identified in the DAF Police AFI and required to meet dress and appearance standards when supporting non DoD agencies IAW the AFI.
  • Must work an uncommon tour of duty, to include nights, weekends, holidays, overtime, rotating shifts, and recall.
  • Incumbent must possess a valid driver's license and be able to operate all security forces vehicles and installed equipment.
  • Subject to duty position evaluation on a pass/fail standard in accordance with AFI 36-2646, Security Forces Training And Standardization Evaluation Programs.
  • Must wear approved protective clothing such as body armor/ballistic plates, helmets, personal protective equipment, coats, boots, traffic vests and/or chemical protective equipment, (e.g. respirator mask).
Qualifications

Experience requirements are described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Police Series. Due to the use of 120-day rosters, this period of experience may be completed within 120 days of the closing date of this announcement.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one year (52 weeks) of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-06, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes knowledge of a body of basic laws and regulations, law enforcement operations, practices, and techniques and involved responsibility for maintaining order and protecting life and property. Creditable specialized experience may have been gained in work on a police force; through service as a military police officer; in work providing visitor protection and law enforcement in parks, forests, or other natural resource or recreational environments; in performing criminal investigative duties; or in other work that provided the required knowledge and skills. NOTE: Due to the use of 120-day rosters, this period of experience may be completed within 120 days of the closing date of this announcement.

FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in- grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-06 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-07 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks.

IDEAL CANDIDATE: The ideal candidate for this position is a highly disciplined and proactive security professional with prior law enforcement or military police experience. This individual has a strong understanding of force protection principles, anti-terrorism measures, and physical security standards essential for protecting personnel, resources, and critical infrastructure on a military installation.
Candidates should possess demonstrated experience in installation access control, conducting patrols in a high-security environment, responding to emergencies, and enforcing federal and local laws and applicable sections of the Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ). The ideal candidate is adept at integrating with military and civilian personnel to ensure a safe and secure environment and can communicate effectively and professionally under pressure. Proficiency with law enforcement databases and security systems such as the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) and the Defense Biometric Identification System (DBIDS) is highly desired. A commitment to the highest standards of integrity, physical fitness, and professionalism is required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
1. Knowledge of law enforcement procedures, training requirements and operating methods required to perform the full range of police officer activities independently.
2. Knowledge of special operating requirements, methods, and procedures for enforcing specialized personnel access controls to prevent unauthorized access to areas where stringent security requirements are enforced.
3. Knowledge of appropriate use of force and self-defense techniques to protect oneself and others in threatening situations including the ability to subdue and control individuals as required.
4. Ability to operate motor vehicles have a gross weight of 7,000 pounds or less, loading capacities of 1 ton or less, and 2 or 4 wheel drive to transport personnel and/or articles.
5. Ability to work and communicate effectively orally and in writing.
6. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with community management, employees, and other law enforcement agencies.

PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
