Business Context & Team Mission
The NGE HAIPE team sits within Viasat Government – Secure Network Systems (SNS), responsible for building and supporting secure networking and cybersecurity software products for government and military customers.
This team develops mission-critical applications that enable seamless management of secure networking, cryptographic, and cybersecurity solutions. Work is highly collaborative and spans the full software development lifecycle, from design through deployment and long-term support in regulated environments.
Role Summary
This Full-Stack Software Engineer will build and maintain secure, scalable web applications that support management of networking and cybersecurity products.
The role leans backend-heavy, with strong expectations around Java/Kotlin and Spring Boot, while still contributing across the stack. Engineers are expected to write secure, maintainable, production-grade code and collaborate closely with product management, UX, and support teams to deliver reliable services.
Key Responsibilities
• Design, develop, test, and maintain full-stack web applications
• Build backend services using Java or Kotlin with Spring / Spring Boot
• Contribute to API development and front-end libraries
• Apply secure coding practices in a government-regulated environment
• Participate in Agile Scrum ceremonies and CI/CD pipelines
• Support Linux-based development environments
• Collaborate across engineering, product, UX, and support teams
• Plan, track, and report on development progress
• Stay current with industry trends and emerging technologies
Required Technical Profile (Hard Requirements)
Core Must-Haves:
• 2+ years of Java or Kotlin writing production web applications
• 2+ years of Spring / Spring Boot (non-negotiable)
• Experience with reactive programming concepts
• Experience with PostgreSQL or similar database technologies
• Automated unit and integration testing
• Performance testing experience
• Strong understanding of secure coding practices
Environment & Process:
• Linux development environments
• Agile / Scrum
• CI/CD pipelines
Nice-to-Have / Differentiators
• REST APIs, RESTConf, and web services
• Containerization (Docker or equivalent)
• Networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, HTTP)
• Python experience
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
Clearance & Citizenship
• U.S. Citizenship required
• Active Secret clearance required at time of hire
o Active Top Secret also acceptable
• Clearance should be screened early in the process
