Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes performing system modifications; installing, repairing, and/or servicing Air Traffic Control communication and navigation aid systems; and troubleshooting equipment malfunctions using electronic theory. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).
Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-11).

Additional information
- Perform onsite maintenance and independent certification of complete system, subsystem and components of complex electronic air traffic control and communication equipment.
- Oversee and diagnose causes of equipment malfunctions through application of advanced electronic theory, system analysis, and other applicable techniques.
- Participate in and conduct site surveys to determine the best location for new or relocated ATC facilities. Aid in the planning and design or modifies existing electronic designs for the installation or modification of Air Traffic Control facilities.
- Maintain the Air Traffic Control maintenance budget and accurate card purchases, logistics ordering, and inventory of all equipment.
Conditions of employment
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
- Pre-employment physical is required and annually thereafter as duties include regular and recurring visits to equipment sites involving considerable stooping, bending and climbing.
- May be assigned to any shift on a rotational or continuing basis. Incumbent is subject to re-call at any hour or on any day to perform emergency repairs on critical equipment.
- This position has been Designated a Key Essential Position. This position shall not be vacated during a national emergency or mobilization without seriously impairing the capability of the agency to function effectively.
- This position is a Testing Designated Position (TDP). Pre-employment drug test is required and randomly thereafter.
- TDY may be required up to 30% of the time.
- Must either possess or be able to obtain and maintain certification for Air Traffic Control equipment in accordance with AR 95-2 within 3 years of being appointed into the position.
- This position has been designated "Mission Essential". In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
