Job Description

Duties

  • Manage and oversee Fire Protection and Prevention programs and Law Enforcement and Emergency Services.
  • Performs a wide range of managerial tasks in planning, managing, directing and evaluating law enforcement operations.
  • Represents the garrison for law enforcement and fire protection/prevention matters to the surrounding civilian communities.
  • Plans and coordinates what is to be accomplished by emergency services subordinate staff.
  • Manages the current year budgets and forecasts resources for fire, law enforcement and security in the out-years.
  • In accordance with AR 190-56, serves as the certifying official for the Individual Reliability Program (IRP) for all assigned police officers and security guards.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Must obtain and maintain a TOP SECRET Security Clearance.
  • This is a drug testing designated position (TDP) which is subject to random drug testing requirements. Individuals not currently occupying a TDP position must successfully complete a pre-appointment drug test prior to being placed into this position.
  • This position requires pre-employment financial disclosure and annually thereafter in accordance with DoD Directive 5500-7-R.
  • This position requires a one year Supervisory probationary period.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirement.
  • Designated Mission Essential Position.
  • This position has been designated as "Emergency-Essential".
  • This position is subject to the provisions of the Domestic Violence Offender Gun Ban commonly referred to as the Lautenberg Amendment.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 5% of the time.

In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level which includes experience providing base operation support services to military, civilians and contractor personnel; overseeing law enforcement and fire protection prevention programs for the installation; directing operations for situations requiring emergency response; developing innovative techniques for providing law enforcement, fire protection, and physical security support to the installation; and providing guidance and advice to program managers and installation leadership on emergency services. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-13).

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-13).
