SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level which includes experience providing base operation support services to military, civilians and contractor personnel; overseeing law enforcement and fire protection prevention programs for the installation; directing operations for situations requiring emergency response; developing innovative techniques for providing law enforcement, fire protection, and physical security support to the installation; and providing guidance and advice to program managers and installation leadership on emergency services. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-13).
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.

- Manage and oversee Fire Protection and Prevention programs and Law Enforcement and Emergency Services.
- Performs a wide range of managerial tasks in planning, managing, directing and evaluating law enforcement operations.
- Represents the garrison for law enforcement and fire protection/prevention matters to the surrounding civilian communities.
- Plans and coordinates what is to be accomplished by emergency services subordinate staff.
- Manages the current year budgets and forecasts resources for fire, law enforcement and security in the out-years.
- In accordance with AR 190-56, serves as the certifying official for the Individual Reliability Program (IRP) for all assigned police officers and security guards.
Conditions of employment
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Must obtain and maintain a TOP SECRET Security Clearance.
- This is a drug testing designated position (TDP) which is subject to random drug testing requirements. Individuals not currently occupying a TDP position must successfully complete a pre-appointment drug test prior to being placed into this position.
- This position requires pre-employment financial disclosure and annually thereafter in accordance with DoD Directive 5500-7-R.
- This position requires a one year Supervisory probationary period.
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
- Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirement.
- Designated Mission Essential Position.
- This position has been designated as "Emergency-Essential".
- This position is subject to the provisions of the Domestic Violence Offender Gun Ban commonly referred to as the Lautenberg Amendment.
- This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 5% of the time.
