Data Scientist

Duties

• Plans, coordinates and executes studies of marked difficulty and responsibility that address advanced data modeling techniques and procedures, data trend analysis and the development of mathematical data algorithms.
• Provides analysis, produces data analysis leveraging data science methodologies and applies modeling techniques and procedures in support of the Army's migration.
• Identifies study's objectives, defines requirements, metrics, measures of effectiveness, and expected outcomes.
• Anticipates, identifies, and defines major problems and future needs, seeks root causes, and develops practical courses of action and timely solutions.
• Participates in the planning and implementation of methods, models, and tools and partners with other analysts to identify opportunities for significant process enhancements and recommends changes.
• Directs and coordinates specific data mining, analysis, advanced modeling, development of mathematical algorithms, and computer program design activities.

• Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
• This position may require temporary duty (TDY) travel 10% of the time.
• One year trial/probationary period may be required.
• This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.

Basic Requirement for Data Scientist:

A. Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in in mathematics, statistics, computer science, data science or field directly related to the position.

OR

B. Combination of Education and Experience: Courses equivalent to a major field of study (30 semester hours) as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below;

Specialized Experience: for GS-13: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service which includes: (1) Applying advanced data analysis techniques to identify the methods, processes, algorithms, tools, and/or systems to interpret findings to help optimize programs; (2) Analyzing and developing solutions using data-driven tools; (3) Understanding complex datasets and drawing meaningful conclusions. And (4) Communicating complex technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12).

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-12).
