MATERIALS EXAMINER AND IDENTIFIER (HAZMAT)

Duties

As a MATERIALS EXAMINER AND IDENTIFIER (HAZMAT), WG-6912-7, you will:

• Serve as the hazardous material/hazardous waste specialist
• Inspect and manage hazardous materials such as explosives, toxic chemicals, flammables, gas cylinders, radioactive material, and hazardous waste
• Maintain proper visibility of hazardous property inventory
• Handle damaged and unidentified shipments requiring repair/repackaging or return to the supplier in accordance with established procedures
• Decontaminate and replenish spill equipment and supplies

MILITARY REQUIREMENTS :

Compatible military grade and assignment required prior to the effective date of placement. This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing state's National Guard. Applicants who are not currently a member of the National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership. If you are not sure you are eligible for military membership, please contact a National Guard recruiter prior to applying for this position.

Areas of Consideration:

Areas III: All current members of the New Jersey Army National Guard

Military Grades: SPC to SFC

Compatible Military Assignments: 91 CMF, 92 CMF, 88M
Selectee may attain the required MOS within two (2) years of appointment

-May be required to successfully complete a probationary period

-Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation

-Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service

Title 32 Dual-Status Positions: Compatible Military Assignments

Appointments may require the selected candidate to be assigned to a *military unit* compatible with the full-time Military Technician (Dual Status) position.

*Military Unit* -- The unit by which the individual is employed as a Military Technician (Dual Status) employee; or a unit that the individual is employed as a Military Technician (Dual Status) employee to support. (Guidance established by NJ HRO-J1)

Qualifications

GENERAL EXPERIENCE : Experience or training which demonstrates the ability to distinguish between closely related or similar items, ability to follow procedures, ability to sort materials by type, and skill in the use of hand tools.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE : 12 months of experience or training identifying and sorting a variety of complex materials and equipment. Experience receiving materials and equipment, recording, and placing items in proper storage areas. Experience preparing all items for shipment using appropriate agency instructions. Experience in mathematical equations. Experience interpreting and using Federal Supply Catalogs, military and manufacturing catalogs, and technical and agency manuals. Experience using and operating forklifts and motor vehicles.

Additional information

Must be able to obtain a Secret Clearance within 1(One) Year of appointment.
