Job Description
This is an on-site position located in Tampa, FL with occasional travel needed.
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Technical Writer to join our AEVEX team. As a Technical Writer at AEVEX, you will play a crucial role in creating clear, concise, and accurate technical and training documentation for our diverse range of products, with a primary focus on Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) and Unmanned Surface Vehicles (USVs). We value self-starters who take ownership of tasks, understand the company goals, and contribute ideas to enhance overall efficiency. Candidates should act as the bridge between fast-moving engineering cycles and the end-users.

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Technical Writer to join our AEVEX team. As a Technical Writer at AEVEX, you will play a crucial role in creating clear, concise, and accurate technical and training documentation for our diverse range of products, with a primary focus on Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) and Unmanned Surface Vehicles (USVs). Essential Functions
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Engineering and Flight Operations, to gather information and ensure accuracy in technical documentation.
- Develop and maintain Technical Manuals and Maintenance Procedures for both flight (UAV) and maritime (USV) platforms
- Work closely with subcontractors and internal teams to understand product specifications and standards for documentation
- Participate in "hands-on" validation by observing test missions (aerial and surface) to ensure that the written procedures match vehicle's operating behavior
- Ensure compliance with DoD standards and industry best practices in creating and formatting technical content.
- Review and update existing technical documentation to reflect product enhancements and changes.
- Manage documentation lifecycles that keep pace with the rapid development environment
- Attend Change Control Boards (CCB) for multiple platforms to track engineering design and TDP change requirements
- Participate in the continuous improvement of documentation processes and templates.
- Regular and reliable attendance on a full time basis [or in accordance with posted schedule].
- Responsible for exhibiting professional behavior with both internal and external business associates that reflects positively on the company and is consistent with the company's policies and practices.
- Embodies AEVEX's cultural values and aligns daily actions with department goals and company culture.
Qualifications and Competencies
- Security Clearance-Ability to obtain/maintain a Top Secret/SCI DoD clearance, U.S. Citizenship required.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a keen eye for detail.
- Proficiency in using documentation tools and software, specifically Adobe, Microsoft Tool Suite, Jira and collaboration tools such as SharePoint.
- Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively in a team environment.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Proficient in reading and interpreting complex engineering drawings and schematics.
Education / Certifications
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field or equivalent work experience.
Experience
- 3-5 years of experience in technical writing preferred, preferably in the defense or aviation industry.
- Familiarity with DoD standards for Technical Manuals, especially for UAS.
