We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Appian Administrator to lead the management, optimization, and scaling of our Appian enterprise platform. In this dual-focus role, you will be the primary owner of our Appian infrastructure while also spearheading the design, implementation, and management of our Appian DevOps and CI/CD pipelines. We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Appian Administrator to lead the management, optimization, and scaling of our Appian enterprise platform. In this dual-focus role, you will be the primary owner of our Appian infrastructure while also spearheading the design, implementation, and management of our Appian DevOps and CI/CD pipelines. Responsibilities
- DevOps & Release Management:
- Pipeline Architecture: Design, build, and maintain a robust CI/CD pipeline tailored specifically for Appian deployments using tools like Jenkins, GitLab CI, Azure DevOps, or native Appian deployment APIs.
- Automation: Automate the packaging, testing, and deployment of Appian applications across all environments (Dev, Test, UAT, Prod) to minimize manual intervention and human error.
- Version Control Integration: Manage source code integration and versioning processes, establishing best practices for branching, merging, and versioning of Appian objects using Git.
- Release Coordination: Plan and execute seamless deployments, managing release schedules, dependencies, and rollback strategies.
- Appian Platform Administration:
- Infrastructure Management: Install, configure, upgrade, and maintain Appian environments (on-premise, cloud, or hybrid) ensuring high availability and disaster recovery readiness.
- Monitoring & Performance: Continuously monitor system health, server metrics, and application performance. Proactively identify, troubleshoot, and resolve performance bottlenecks or system errors.
- Patching & Upgrades: Plan and execute Appian software upgrades, hotfixes, and patch management in alignment with vendor releases and internal maintenance windows.
- Capacity Planning: Analyze usage trends and system loads to forecast infrastructure needs and scale environments appropriately.
- Security, Compliance, & Governance:
- Access Management: Administer user provisioning, roles, groups, and permissions within the Appian environment, ensuring adherence to the principle of least privilege.
- Security Audits: Monitor platform security, manage SSL certificates, and ensure compliance with internal security policies and external regulations (e.g., SOC2, HIPAA, depending on industry).
- Best Practices: Establish and enforce Appian architectural and administrative best practices, acting as the primary gatekeeper for code quality and platform governance.
- Collaboration & Mentorship:
- Partner closely with Appian developers, QA engineers, and business stakeholders to streamline the software development lifecycle.
- Provide technical guidance, troubleshooting support, and mentorship to junior administrators and development teams.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field preferred.
- Experience: 5+ years of hands-on experience in Appian platform administration (installation, configuration, maintenance) and 2+ years of dedicated experience in DevOps, CI/CD, and release management.
- DevOps Expertise: Proven experience setting up continuous integration and deployment pipelines specifically for Appian. Proficiency with version control systems (Git) and CI/CD orchestrators (Jenkins, Azure DevOps, GitLab, etc.).
- Infrastructure Skills: Strong working knowledge of Linux/Windows server administration, Apache Tomcat, and web servers (IIS/Apache).
- Database Knowledge: Solid understanding of relational databases (e.g., MySQL, Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL) and data source configurations within Appian.
- Scripting: Proficiency in scripting languages (e.g., Bash, PowerShell, Python) to automate administrative and deployment tasks.
- Problem-Solving: Excellent analytical and troubleshooting skills with the ability to diagnose complex server, network, or application issues under pressure.
Desired Qualifications:
- Active Appian Certification (e.g., Appian Certified Senior Developer, Lead Developer, or specific administrative certifications).
- Experience with containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) and infrastructure-as-code (Terraform, Ansible).
- Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) if managing self-managed cloud infrastructure, or experience directly managing Appian Cloud environments.
- Other requirements:
- Must be a US citizen and/or green card holder and be able to obtain Public Trust clearance.
- Prior FDA experience is a plus.
