Windows Administrator
Overview

We are seeking a Windows Administrator to provide Tier III IT operations support across enterprise mission systems. This role is responsible for maintaining and optimizing Windows-based infrastructure, including servers, desktops, and hybrid environments.

The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in Active Directory, Windows Server, endpoint management, and virtualization, along with experience supporting modern hybrid and cloud-integrated environments.
Key Responsibilities
Windows Server & Infrastructure Management
  • Administer Windows Server environments (2016/2019/2022), including:
    • Domain Controllers
    • File, print, and application servers
  • Manage Active Directory (AD):
    • Users, groups, OUs
    • Group Policy (GPOs), DNS, DHCP, replication
Endpoint & Desktop Support
  • Provide Tier III support for Windows desktop environments
  • Support OS deployment, patching, and troubleshooting
  • Manage endpoint devices across:
    • Windows, macOS, and Linux (as required)
Endpoint Management & Automation
  • Administer SCCM / Microsoft Endpoint Manager (Intune)
  • Support:
    • Software distribution
    • Patch management
    • Endpoint compliance
  • Utilize PowerShell and automation tools to improve efficiency
Virtualization & Infrastructure Operations
  • Operate and monitor:
    • Hyper-V and VMware environments
  • Provide hands-on support for:
    • Data centers and communication closets
    • Server and network hardware
Monitoring, Performance & Capacity
  • Monitor systems using tools such as:
    • SCOM, SolarWinds, Azure Monitor
  • Identify and resolve:
    • Performance issues
    • Bottlenecks and outages
  • Track capacity utilization and licensing compliance
Backup, Recovery & Documentation
  • Support backup and restore processes aligned with RTO/RPO requirements
  • Maintain detailed documentation:
    • Server configurations
    • Rack layouts, cabling, and power requirements
  • Track operational records (logs, inventories, validations)
Configuration & Change Management
  • Maintain and update CMDB
  • Support Configuration Management practices aligned with DOE standards
  • Submit and manage changes through formal change control (CCR process)
  • Evaluate technical and cybersecurity risks for proposed changes
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in IT, Computer Science, or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • 5+ years of experience in systems administration or IT operations
  • Strong experience with:
    • Windows Server environments
    • Active Directory and GPOs
    • Endpoint management tools (SCCM / Intune)
    • Virtualization platforms (VMware, Hyper-V)
Preferred Certifications
  • Microsoft Certified: Windows Server Hybrid Administrator Associate
  • Microsoft Certified: Endpoint Administrator Associate
  • CompTIA Network+ or Cisco CCNA
  • Additional certifications in:
    • Virtualization
    • Endpoint security
    • Network infrastructure
Key Skills
  • PowerShell scripting and automation
  • Hybrid identity management (Azure AD, federation, conditional access)
  • Windows security baselines and compliance frameworks
  • Patch management and system hardening
  • Strong troubleshooting across OS, server roles, and virtualization
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills
