Duties
As a SURFACE MAINTENANCE MECHANIC SUPERVISOR (TITLE 32), WS-5801-15, you will provide overall direction and coordination of subordinate work activities and functions.

AREA OF CONSIDERATION: The areas of considerations for this position, Title 32 Excepted Service (32 U.S. Code § 709), will be in the following manner and sequence,
Military Grades: Warrant Officer/Officer - CW4-O4
GENERAL EXPERIENCE : MUST possess experience or training which demonstrates knowledge of equipment to be able to do routine jobs, simple preventative maintenance tasks, and can use common tools and equipment in the line of work.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE : WS-15 Level MUST possess, in addition to the journeyman level knowledge, experience which demonstrates the ability to plan, direct, and organize work assignments for lower grade personnel; experience which required the review of work requirements and establish priorities to meet deadlines; experience that provided knowledge of various lines of work performed by this function; experience in adapting existing equipment and techniques to new situations.
SPECIALIZED SUPERVISORY EXPERIENCE : MUST possess supervisory experience which includes experience which demonstrates the ability to supervise or the potential to perform such duties as evidenced by the ability to communicate knowledge of general supervisory concepts, and knowledge of shop processes.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

- Analyze work plans developed by subordinate supervisors for accomplishment of assigned work orders, projects, and the status of work accomplished.
- Provide higher-level managers and/or supervisors with information regarding status of work projects, budget estimates, changes in equipment, facilities, techniques, etc.
- Explain work requirements to subordinate supervisors, set deadlines and sequence of operations.
- Analyze production, cost and personnel utilization records, and make adjustment in operations to correct problems.
- Spot checks work operations to assure production and quality standards are met. Encourages employees to achieve goals.
- Recommend promotion or reassignment of subordinate supervisors and reviews personnel actions prepared by supervisors.
- Make formal appraisal of supervisors' work performance and review employee appraisals submitted by them.
- Develop, publish, and ensure employee compliance with standing operating procedures for the activity supervised.
- Ensure regulations governing safety and housekeeping are observed with appropriate protective clothing and equipment being utilized.
Conditions of employment
- This is an excepted service position that requires membership in the Illinois National Guard and in the military grade listed in the announcement. - The FIRST area of consideration for this position will be all excepted permanent and indefinite temporary technicians within the ILNG.
- The SECOND area of consideration will be all current Federal Employees.
- The THIRD area of consideration will be all Federal re-employment eligible.
- The FOURTH area of consideration will be applicants willing to become T32 Dual Status Technicians and gain ILNG membership.
- The FIFTH area of consideration will U.S. Citizens.
