To qualify for this position you must meet the qualification requirements listed below:
Basic requirements for Museum Curator:
Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in museum work; or in an applicable subject-matter field such as Museum Studies or History.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: Courses equivalent to a major, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
OR
Experience: Four years of experience that provided knowledge comparable to that normally acquired through the successful completion of the four year course of study as shown in A above.
In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: researching a diverse collection of military historical artifacts to determine significance and classification; performing historical artifact conservation/preservation measures for an collection; and performing artifact inventory and accountability. This definition of specialized experience is typical work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12).
Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-12). To be referred, applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade and qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.
Education
FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university. Additional information
- Guides and directs employees as well as performs artifact identification, registration, cataloging and validation of data.
- Oversees the fabrication of special museum grade fixtures as needed for the storage and shipment of artifacts.
- Designs or selects special fixtures for purchase or construction and compiles and implements work orders.
- Evaluates and verifies invoices, shipping documents, and inventories.
- Employs extensive working knowledge of museum registration and cataloging policies and procedures.
- Manages and directs conservation/preservation measures to preserve artifacts in the assigned collection.
- Prepares written reports on the status of the collection; the condition of the facility in which it is stored; and weekly, monthly, and quarterly reports as required.
- Develops, coordinates, and manages the facility operational budget in accordance to resource requirements, mission priorities, and guidance provided by the Chief, Historic Materiel Division.
- Provide advice, counsel, and instruction to employees on technical work and administrative matters.
- Serves as a first line supervisor.

- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
- This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 10% of the time.
- This position is supervisory as defined by the Office of Personnel Management's (OPM) General Schedule Supervisory Guide (GSSG). A one year probation to assess your ability to perform supervisory duties is required unless previously completed.
- This position is subject to the provisions of the Domestic Violence Offender Gun Ban commonly referred to as the Lautenberg Amendment; persons convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence are not eligible for the position.
- Employee may be required to drive a forklift.
- The employee may be required to obtain and maintain a valid state driver's license.

- The position may require lifting of at least 30 pounds.
- This position has an irregular tour of duty and may require shift work and/or work on rotating shifts to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, and in other situations.
