Position Overview
We are seeking a hands-on Information Systems Security Manager (ISSM) to support a mission-critical federal environment located in Washington, DC. This role blends daily operational security responsibilities (O&M) with project-based initiatives, requiring a technical leader who is comfortable working directly in the environment while guiding security posture and compliance efforts.
Key Responsibilities
Perform hands-on ISSM duties supporting both operational and project-driven requirements
Lead and execute system security operations, including vulnerability remediation
Support and respond to security audits, including writing technical and compliance responses
Troubleshoot issues across infrastructure and security domains, working closely with engineers and stakeholders
Stabilize and improve systems in degraded or broken environments, clearly documenting corrective actions
Partner with technical teams to maintain and improve security controls and system health
Technical Environment
Large-scale infrastructure supporting approximately:
600 servers
8,000 endpoints
Operating Systems:
Linux (critical requirement) – major mission systems run on Linux
Windows
Virtualization & Cloud:
VMware
Growing AWS footprint
Transitioning toward Azure
Backup environment currently undergoing modernization using a multi-solution approach
Databases:
Not a primary DB role, but sufficient knowledge required to assist with troubleshooting when needed
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree plus 12+ years of relevant experience
Active TS clearance (Q clearance strongly preferred; crossover possible)
Demonstrated hands-on Linux experience in production environments
Strong background in system security, operations, and compliance
Proven ability to remediate vulnerabilities and support audits with fast turnaround
Experience working in high-pressure, mission-focused environments
Interview Process:
Camera-on prescreen required
Candidates must be interviewed prior to submission
Decision Timeline: 24-hour turnaround after final interview
