Specialized Experience:
In-Service Applicants: One year of specialized experience which includes receiving emergency and non-emergency phone calls; determining type of emergency situation, and initiating appropriate response to each; and performing crisis intervention with distraught emergency callers during high-risk situations. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09).

- Assign work and special duties through three (3) Shift Lead Dispatchers.
- Develop employee performance standards.
- Appraise subordinates on their performance of duties.
- Initiate requests for filling vacancies or for additional personnel to meet work requirements.
- Plan for current and short-range operations based on review of workload, applicable policies, and anticipated requirements of the organization.
- Develops and maintains a comprehensive budget for the E911Communications Branch.
- Conduct random center equipment inventories, systems updates and system inquires to ensure that equipment is operating to the highest standard.
- Serve as Project Manager for the implementation of activities related to the Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD) System and CAD Enhanced 911 and future upgrades with intergraded software.
- Manage an accredited Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) 911 communications center.
- Operate communications equipment (TDD) for the hearing impaired, conveying messages, taking and making calls.
- Perform crisis intervention with distraught emergency callers during high-risk situations until appropriate emergency field units arrive on scene.
- Monitor status and availability of police, fire, and medical field units to assure an appropriate response is made.

- Incumbent must obtain and maintain a secret security clearance.
- Incumbent must obtain and maintain certification in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR),continuous current certification is a condition of employment.
- Incumbent must obtain and maintain certification Advanced Medical Priority Dispatch System certification, continuous current certification is a condition of employment.
- Incumbent must obtain and maintain a Telecommunication II certification, continuous current certification is a condition of employment.
- The incumbent must be able to obtain/maintain access to criminal justice information systems.
- Incumbent must obtain and maintain DoD Hazardous Materials Awareness certification, continuous current certification is a condition of employment.
- This position is subject to rotating shifts where the incumbent is required to work an alternate work schedule, which requires an uncommon tour of duty (including nights, weekends, and holidays).
- Incumbent is required to work (Mission Essential) regardless of weather conditions or base closure and to report to the duty station at the regularly scheduled time.
- The incumbent is required to obtain and maintain a Texas Crime Information Center (TCIC) and National Crime Information (NCIC) training, and pass the course(s) with pre-determined requirements set by the Texas Department of Public Safety.
- The incumbent is responsible for attaining Continuing Dispatch Education (CDE) requirements through in-service training that is offered locally and pass in accordance with predetermined course requirements.
- The incumbent is responsible for attaining continuing dispatch and Intrusion Detection education requirements through in-service training that is offered locally and pass with predetermined course requirements.
- The work is performed in a highly stressful, restricted office environment.
- Position is subject to recall to duty. Incumbent must maintain a functioning telephone at their residence to aid in contact during recall/emergency situations.
- Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 11. While probationary the incumbent can be terminated with limited appeal rights.
- This position is supervisory as defined by the Office of Personnel Management's (OPM) General Schedule Supervisory Guide (GSSG). A one year probation to assess your ability to perform supervisory duties is required unless previously completed.
