Job Description

Akima Systems Engineering (ASE) is seeking a Senior Engineering Technician to serve as the Installation Lead for the USCG SeaWatch 4.0 Modernization program. This role is a critical component of our maritime C5I portfolio, responsible for leading a 4-man installation team in the removal, installation, configuration, and testing of SeaWatch Tier 1 and Tier 2 systems on board USCG Medium Endurance Cutters (WMEC). The Lead will oversee on-site technical execution, hardware integration of Dell PowerEdge servers and Perle IO Lan systems, and coordinate daily with the Project Task Manager (PTM) and Government COR.

Responsibilities

  • Technical Leadership: Serve as the on-site Lead Tech for SeaWatch 4.0 installations, managing a team of three technicians to ensure milestones are met within the 3-to-4-week pier-side window.
  • System Integration: Lead the physical installation and cable plant modernization of SeaWatch hardware, including Dell R540 servers, Client CPUs, and the 200WX weather sensor suite.
  • Testing & QA: Execute Pre-Installation Test and Check-Out (PITCO) and System Operation Verification Tests (SOVT) IAW USCG technical standards.
  • Software/Firmware Management: Oversee the loading of system images and firmware updates for virtualized environments (ESXi) in the C5ISC lab environment.
  • Logistics & Accountability: Responsible for GFE inventory management (DD1149), tools accountability, and daily SITREP reporting (4-5 bullet points) to the PTM and USCG leadership.
  • Safety & Compliance: Ensure all work is performed IAW NAVSEA Standard Items, OSHA safety protocols, and base-specific security requirements at NAS Pensacola and other USCG facilities.

Qualifications

  • Clearance: Able to obtain Secret Security Clearance required.
  • Experience: Minimum 8 years of technical experience in maritime electronic systems installation and team leadership.
  • Technical Skills: Expert-level proficiency in CAT5/6 termination, fiber optic fusion splicing, and complex cable way architecture.
  • Physical: Ability to work in confined shipboard spaces and climb masts for sensor installation; must be eligible for a CAC card.
