Tensley Consulting is seeking a Network Engineer II (NE2) to support the design, implementation, optimization, and maintenance of enterprise network infrastructure within a high-performance, mission-critical environment. This role ensures secure, scalable, and high-availability network operations across LAN/WAN architectures.
Core Responsibilities:
Education/Experience
Eight (8) years' experience in programs and contracts of similar scope, type, and complexity is required. Bachelor's degree in engineering or Information Systems Management from an accredited college or university is required. Four (4) years of additional network engineering experience may be substituted for a bachelor's degree.
Salary: $165,000-$185,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position, but is not guaranteed. Salary is based on experience, location and contractual requirements which could fall outside of the range listed.
Core Responsibilities:
- Configure and optimize network switches, routers, and firewalls
- Implement and manage Intrusion Detection and Prevention Systems (IDPS)
- Configure and troubleshoot virtual networking, VLANs, and VRFs
- Develop and implement network backup and recovery procedures
- Diagnose and resolve network connectivity issues
- Install, maintain, and upgrade network operating systems/software
- Monitor network capacity, performance, and security posture
- Identify and mitigate network vulnerabilities
- Test and maintain network infrastructure (hardware and software)
- Implement solutions including load balancing, VPNs, firewall contexts, and NAT
- Optimize network latency, data throughput, and end-to-end system performance
- Coordinate with system engineering and dataflow teams to ensure mission continuity
- Design, integrate, configure, deploy, test, and maintain network systems
- Support scalable, fault-tolerant WAN and LAN architectures
- Provide lifecycle support: design → implementation → maintenance → upgrades
- Analyze system requirements and implement communication solutions
- Evaluate network metrics (traffic flow, transmission speed, packet size, throughput)
- Recommend system improvements and procurement needs
