Applied Research Solutions is seeking a full-time Principal Systems Engineer with terminal production and manufacturing experience for Hanscom AFB. Significant software management experience required, as this position will assist with the contractor process, architecture and coding oversight. The Aerial Networks Division primary mission acquires, fields, and sustains networks, integrated information systems, enterprise services, and applications to support the Global Information Grid (GIG) capabilities. These systems facilitate communication between land, naval, air, and space warfare forces. The Division develops capabilities for voice, video, and data networks focused on joint and coalition warfighter needs to enable worldwide net-centric operations.

Candidate ensures that a product design can be transitioned from engineering prototype to full-scale production with acceptable risk, cost, and schedule. Candidate assesses the maturity of manufacturing processes, manage risks through Manufacturing Readiness Levels (MRLs), and lead Production Readiness Reviews (PRR)

Responsibilities Include:

The individual shall be able to:
  • Production Readiness Reviews (PRR):Conducting formal evaluations to determine if the design is ready for production and if the contractor has adequate production planning.
  • Manufacturing Readiness Assessments (MRA):Utilizing MRLs (typically a scale of 1–10) to measure the maturity of manufacturing processes and identify risks.
  • Producibility Engineering:Evaluating designs for manufacturability, ensuring they can be produced consistently at scale (high first-pass yield).
  • Supply Chain & Tooling Management:Identifying long-lead items, sourcing, and ensuring necessary tooling and test equipment are available.
  • Risk Mitigation:Developing plans to address low-yield processes or material limitations before they affect production.
  • Quality Management: Establishing process controls for Low-Rate Initial Production (LRIP) and full-rate production.
  • Other duties as assigned

Typical Requirements
  • Technical Background:Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Manufacturing, Industrial).
  • Experience:Experience in transitioning products from development to manufacturing, particularly in complex electronics or communication systems.
  • Regulatory Knowledge:Familiarity with Defense Acquisition regulations (e.g., DoD 5000 series, MRL Deskbook).
  • Software Skills:Proficiency with CAD, PLM systems, and data analysis tools for process improvement
  • U.S. Citizen
  • Top-Secret Clearance is required

The annual salary range: $170k - $190k. Salary is dependent upon the role and associated responsibilities, candidate's experience, and qualifications to include education/training, and key skills.
