What You Will Do:

As a Level 3 Data Scientist with Independent Software, you will provide advanced discovery support by leveraging machine learning, statistical analysis, analytical prototyping, scripting, automation, and data visualization to support mission-critical initiatives. You will work with large, complex datasets to develop scalable solutions that evolve with mission needs and emerging technologies.

This role emphasizes building efficient, repeatable workflows and automation for data ingestion, processing, modeling, and reporting. You will design and maintain data pipelines, perform advanced analytics, and deliver insights that directly support operational decision-making.

You will collaborate closely with technical leads, subject matter experts, analysts, and mission partners. Prior experience in targeting, discovery, SIGINT, or analytic roles is highly beneficial. A strong, inquisitive mindset and ability to independently explore and extract value from complex data is critical for success in this role.

Key Responsibilities:

• Apply statistical methods, machine learning models, and automation techniques to support discovery and analysis
• Design, develop, and maintain data pipelines supporting both batch and incremental data ingestion
• Build prototypes and scripts for processing, modeling, and visualizing large volumes of structured and unstructured data
• Perform data preprocessing including normalization, cleaning, filtering, aggregation, and reshaping datasets for analysis and reporting
• Leverage Python (including Pandas) and Jupyter Notebooks to develop analytical models and workflows
• Develop and maintain automated processes for reporting, analytics, and data-driven decision support
• Create visualizations and dashboards using tools such as Power BI, Tableau, or similar platforms
• Conduct exploratory data analysis to identify patterns, anomalies, and actionable insights
• Collaborate with TDNA teams, data scientists, SIGDEV experts, and RF specialists to support mission objectives
• Translate mission needs into technical requirements and guide stakeholders in interpreting complex datasets
• Deliver briefings and presentations to both technical and non-technical audiences
• Utilize and maintain Python automation packages and workflows used across mission environments

Required Skills and Qualifications:

• Strong experience with data processing, ETL workflows, and data pipeline development
• Proficiency in Python, including experience with Pandas for data manipulation and analysis
• Experience using Jupyter Notebooks for modeling, analysis, and reproducible workflows
• Experience working with large, complex datasets including noisy or incomplete data
• Strong data visualization skills and experience building dashboards or analytical outputs
• Experience with machine learning, statistical modeling, and algorithm development
• Ability to perform data preprocessing including normalization, filtering, aggregation, and reshaping
• Understanding of workflow automation and optimization of data processing systems
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a discovery-focused mindset
• Ability to communicate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
• Experience working collaboratively across technical teams and mission stakeholders

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with Power BI, Tableau, or similar data visualization platforms
• Background in TechSIGINT, SIGDEV, or RF-based intelligence (HF, VHF, UHF, SATCOM)
• Experience with large-scale or National Agency datasets
• Familiarity with database systems such as SQL, Elastic, Kibana, or similar tools
• Previous experience as an analyst, targeter, or discovery analyst within the Intelligence Community
• Experience delivering clear, polished briefings to diverse audiences

Education and Experience:

Minimum Qualifications (One of the following):
  • Master's degree with 8 plus years of relevant experience
  • Bachelor's degree with 10 plus years of relevant experience
  • Associate degree with 12 plus years of relevant experience
Acceptable Degree Fields:
  • Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Statistics, Machine Learning, Data Science, Operations Research, or Computer Science
  • Related fields such as Computer Information Systems, Engineering, or Physical Sciences with a strong computational focus
  • Other scientific disciplines may qualify if accompanied by 5 or more upper level courses in mathematics 300 level or higher and or computer science
  • Broader degrees may be accepted if supported by a Data Science Certificate from an accredited institution
Clearance Requirement:
  • Must possess an active TS SCI with appropriate Polygraph to be considered for this role
