Suffolk, VA (On/Off-Site)
Job Description
Insight Global is seeking a Software Engineer to support a federal client in Suffolk, VA. The Software Engineer will play a critical role in modernizing the DDJT-managed JLVC (Joint Live Virtual Constructive) federates for a new computing environment that supports future Joint Force events, including the FY27 Joint Force objective. The goal is to reduce hardware sustainment costs, modernize system architecture for compatibility with virtualized and cloud-based platforms, and implement a DEVSECOPS pipeline to support secure, continuous integration and delivery (CI/CD). This position requires expertise in software development, cloud-native application design, and the use of modern engineering methodologies to migrate legacy server-client systems to containerized, modular, and scalable solutions. The Software Engineer responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Refactor and re-architect legacy federates to operate in cloud-native and virtualized environments.
• Migrate existing standalone and server-client systems into containerized applications (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).
• Develop and maintain software solutions using modern programming languages and frameworks.
• Design and implement DEVSECOPS pipelines (CI/CD) for efficient and secure software delivery.
• Integrate automated testing, code analysis, and container orchestration into the development workflow.
• Redesign legacy UI components for improved usability, accessibility, and supportability.
• Transition from hardware-intensive graphical interfaces to modern web-based user interfaces.
• Apply a Modular Open Systems Approach (MOSA) to increase interoperability, maintainability, and flexibility of federates.
• Collaborate with systems and cyber teams to ensure software components align with open standards and DoD mandates.
• Work closely with system engineers, cyber architects, and exercise planners to gather requirements and align technical solutions with operational goals.
• Document software architecture, technical design decisions, and development best practices.
Required Skills & Experience
• 5 years experience with Bachelors in related field; 3 years experience with Masters in related field; 0 years experience with PhD or Juris Doctorate in related field; or High School Diploma or equivalent and 9 years relevant experience.
• Experience in refactoring legacy systems and implementing microservices architectures.
• Proficiency in one or more programming languages (e.g., Java, C++, Python, JavaScript).
• Knowledge of simulation and training environments, preferably JLVC or similar federated simulation systems.
• Experience with:
• Cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or DoD Cloud equivalents)
• Containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes)
• CI/CD tools (Jenkins, GitLab CI, GitHub Actions, etc.)
• Version control systems (Git)
• Familiarity with Modular Open Systems Approaches (MOSA) and DoD software architecture standards.
• Knowledge of simulation and training environments, preferably JLVC or similar federated simulation systems.
Compensation:
$45/hr to $50hr.
Exact compensation may vary based on several factors, including skills, experience, and education.
