The CEM Security Safety Manager plans, directs, and evaluates comprehensive safety programs to ensure compliance with OSHA and environmental regulations, protecting both staff and detainees. They conduct hazard inspections, manage incident investigations, oversee hazardous materials, and integrate safety procedures into the facility's overall security operations. The Security Safety Manager responds to all staff safety incidents, ensures the employee is provided with appropriate care, and that all reports and document are submitted timely in the safety system. The Safety Manager manages and provides oversight to the facility safety program.

Responsibilities

  • The Safety Manager conducts:
  • Compliance Inspections: Conduct regular inspections of industrial, construction, and facility areas to enforce OSHA, fire safety, and environmental standards.
  • Risk Management: Identify hazards, investigate accidents, and develop preventative measures to reduce injuries and workers' compensation claims.
  • Training & Education: Develop and deliver safety training for staff and management and manage safety awareness programs.
  • Operational Safety: Monitor the storage, use, and disposal of hazardous materials within AGS's scope within the facility.
  • Security Integration: Actively support the institution's primary mission of security by integrating safety protocols into daily operations.
  • Administrative Oversight: Manage safety documentation, recording reports the Akima safety management system.
  • Develops and implements the Site Safety Plan.
  • Participates in Use of Force After Action Reviews for lessons learned.
  • Investigates root cause analysis for all safety incidents and develops lessons learned.
  • Coordinates with the facility training manager to incorporate lessons learned into regular curriculum.
  • This role requires a thorough understanding of industrial processes within an institution, ensuring that inmate work programs, maintenance, and facility upgrades meet safety standards
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college in a related field. The degree requirement may be satisfied by completion of a career development program that includes work-related experience, training, or college credits at a level of achievement equivalent to the bachelor's degree.
  • Has received formal safety training.
  • US citizen or a person lawfully admitted into the United States for permanent residence and have resided in the U.S. for the last five years.
  • Pass a criminal background and consumer credit check (no criminal record).
  • Obtain and maintain a DHS/ICE government clearance.
  • Pass all pre-employment and random drug tests.
  • At least 21 years of age.
  • Possess a valid state driver's license.
  • Minimum of Five years of Military, Security, Law Enforcement, or Corrections experience demonstrating the following:
    • Previous experience managing a facility's safety program; preferably within the corrections or detention / law enforcement environment.
    • Greet and deal tactfully and professionally with the general public.
    • Exercise good judgment: courage, alertness, an even temperament, and render satisfactory performance through his/her responsibilities.
    • Maintain poise and self-control during potential emergencies and unexpected situations that may involve mental and physical stress such as disturbances, altercations, fires, and building evacuations.
    • Maintain minimum expected fitness standards for law enforcement operations.
    • Skilled in written and oral communication, such as preparation of correspondence, reports, and other documents; the ability to brief or otherwise convey plans, policies, and guidelines, and tactfully and diplomatically resolve problems and convince others to adopt recommendations made.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • A thorough knowledge of the methods, principles, and practices of ICE detention; a thorough knowledge of the laws, rules, regulations, administrative processes, standards (including American Correctional Association and ICE Performance Based National Detention Standards).
  • This role requires a thorough understanding of industrial processes within an institution, ensuring that detainee work programs, maintenance, and facility upgrades meet safety standards.
  • Must demonstrate good judgement, problem solving capabilities, keen attention to detail, self-driven, strong organization skills, ability to multi-task, possess computer skills, proficient in MS Office, the ability to work independently on several cases at a time, professionalism, time management skills and the ability to adjust / adapt to an ever-changing environment, change in mission and or protocols.
  • Accurately and professionally conduct inspections of a large detention facility.
  • Concisely and accurately prepare and write reports of findings and decisions.
  • Ability to work with a diverse population of people, including people of different cultures, with different values and lifestyles, with a cross-cultural perspective.
