The Multi-Product Power & Digital (MPD) department designs FPGAs, circuit cards, and electronics subassemblies for a range of products including missiles/effectors, radars, and electronic warfare systems. The team leverages digital, analog, and power design skills to provide support throughout the product lifecycle from architecture and design through production and sustainment.

The MPD department is seeking a Principal Specialist Lab Manager to join our team. In this role, you will lead the tactical and strategic direction for the Fort Wayne Engineering Labs. The Engineering Labs are critical to program success, and you will partner with experienced, multidisciplinary teams to define requirements, develop improvement activities for technical capabilities as well as continuous improvements for metrology, safety, ergonomic, environmental and compliance. You will collaborate with personnel from other RTX locations to identify best practices and opportunities for improvement while leveraging work and equipment sharing as appropriate.

This position is an onsite role, Located in Fort Wayne, IN.

What You Will Do
  • Serve as Fort Wayne site leader for Engineering Labs
  • Support / prepare for Internal/External Audits/Assessments Actions ~ OSHA VPP, Property, Government Furnished Equipment (GFE), Security, Disposal, EHS&S, Safety, AS9100, Laser, Programs, Chemicals, etc.
  • Lead improvements to processes, systems or products to enhance overall Lab performance, safety, ergonomics, technical capabilities and compliance levels.
  • Create and Maintain Lab Operation Procedures (LOP)
  • Ensure all Foreign Object Elimination (FOE) plans are current and being followed
  • Ensure lab personnel are following Lab Run Rules and practicing clean-as-you-go techniques
  • Ensure all safety regulations are followed by Lab Personnel and necessary PPE is being used
  • Ensure all chemicals are within expiration date (including tapes & eyewash stations)
  • Main point-of-contact for all lab personnel requests/services
  • Maintain Lab Area Management System (AMIS) and Calibration & Preventive Maintenance System (ARAMIS).
  • Assist in management of engineering hardware inventories for GFE
  • Collaborate with Facility leadership and initiate Facility Work Requests as required
  • Assist other Lab Leads when assistance is requested including other sites
  • Coach, review, and delegate work to junior engineers and engineering technicians
  • Ensure the Lab Access Lists are current (updated within 30 days) and provide access to authorized employees.
  • Coordinate procurement requests from lab personnel
  • Coordinate placing proper identification labels on property/metrology assets
  • Coordinate the closure of all Notification-of-Out-of-Tolerance equipment on time
  • Support customer interactions and relations related to Lab operations
  • Engage in personal technical growth and facilitate technical growth in peers and junior engineers
  • Assist in managing engineering hardware inventories and location of test equipment, material
  • Complete a Visual walk through of labs for safety, security and proper care & use of equipment
  • Ensure all lab equipment has legible property stickers, calibration stickers as appropriate


Qualifications You Must Have
  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 5 years of prior relevant experience.
  • Leadership experience with Engineering Labs for testing electronics such as printed circuit boards, circuit card assemblies, electronic modules.
  • Experience with Lab Area Management System and/or Calibration & Preventive Maintenance System
  • Experience leading Lab teams or Engineering teams
  • Experience working with and supporting internal and external audits of various types such as AS9100, GFE, Safety, OSHA, Ergonomic, Quality, Customer.


Qualifications We Value
  • Experience working with EHS&S, Property, Facilities, Security, Engineering teams
  • Experience with ISO/IEC 17025, ANSI Z540.3 calibration, testing standards and ESD standard ANSI/ESD S20.20.
  • Experience communicating and documenting technical topics and presenting to customers and management.
  • Demonstrated mentorship of junior engineers or engineering technicians
  • Experience testing complex electronics subassemblies and systems

The salary range for this role is 86,800 USD - 165,200 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate's work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
