JOB SUMMARY

The Aviation Support Unit oversees and manages the Safety Management System, aircraft maintenance, quality assurance, datalink/special mission equipment, and asset management for a fleet of over 100 aircraft nationwide. ASU ensures the airworthiness and mission readiness of the entire fleet, upholding the highest standards of operational excellence and safety across all missions.

KEY REQUIREMENTS
  • Must be a U.S. citizen
  • Must be able to obtain a Top Secret-SCI clearance
  • Some travel required

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

In addition to the work performed at a desk, the duties regularly require extended periods of working, standing or bending while
observing maintenance operations, witnessing test or examining material.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work involves moderate risks or discomforts that require special safety precautions, such as when visiting maintenance
hangars and shops.

MAJOR DUTIES:

GS-12
  • Evaluate and provide support for ongoing aviation maintenance, safety, and training initiatives, including both administrative oversight and direct support for ASU aviation maintenance and mission equipment programs.
  • Track and ensure FAA and FBI maintenance and mission systems compliance of aviation fleet regarding aircraft status, overdue items, and required maintenance, utilizing CAMP Systems and other FBI systems on regular basis.
  • Conduct on-site visits of maintenance and mission systems providers to foster understanding of FBI procedures and requirements and to conduct inspection to ensure appropriate maintenance and repair practices are utilized.
  • Participate in new aircraft requirements, testing, and inspection prior to acceptance into FBI fleet.

In addition to the above:

GS-13:
  • Provide specialized technical representation, oversight, and collaboration with industry experts on special mission equipment, integration, and aircraft airworthiness.
  • Conduct comprehensive and in depth system troubleshooting and analysis to provide predictive maintenance and support recommendations to aviation program managers, working groups, and senior leaders.

Specialized Experience (SE)

GS-12: Applicant must possess at least one (1) year of SE equivalent to the GS-11 grade level. SE is defined as follows:
  • Overseeing and ensuring quality assurance for airworthiness of aircraft, aircraft systems, aviation communications, and special mission equipment.
  • Providing technical support to aircraft operations units on aircraft and mission equipment discrepancies.
  • Identifying inadequacies and requesting corrective action.

GS-13 Applicant must possess at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level. SE is defined as follows:
  • Writing and oral communications skills to prepare and present audit and quality assurance reports, policies, documentation, and briefings.
  • Military equivalence of aviation maintenance, avionics, communications, and/or aircraft special mission operations and equipment.

Desired Skills

Desired skills are NOT mandatory and will NOT be utilized to minimally qualify applicants. Desired Skills are:
  • Experience as an FAA Airframe and Power Plant Mechanic (A&P) or A&P/IA.
