Job Description
The Product Development Engineer is a key member of the team responsible for the design, installation, operation, and lifecycle maintenance of advanced countermeasures systems, primarily at overseas diplomatic facilities. The engineer ensures interoperability and proper functionality of highly technical equipment, manages hardware and software configuration changes, and provides technical support for all phases of countermeasures systems-including pre-installation, installation, and post-installation. Responsibilities include coordinating technical reporting, leading equipment upgrades, overseeing user training, and directing the work of other countermeasures engineers in the section.
This position requires a thorough understanding of engineering and physics, and involves evaluating and developing new countermeasure systems and test equipment, documenting capabilities, identifying limitations, and making recommendations. The Product Development Engineer leads product development efforts, including the design, prototyping, and refinement of custom components, and applies knowledge of fabrication and machining processes to support system integration and field deployment. The engineer trains Department of State personnel, conducts independent research and testing, assists in drafting and reviewing technical security policies, and facilitates integration of countermeasures into Department facilities. The engineer leads project design and review meetings, manages travel and site support for the team, and completes surveys for new installations. The role requires the ability to read, interpret, and create electrical and electromechanical schematics and architectural drawings. The Product Development Engineer is responsible for working with data throughout its lifecycle, including collection, management, analysis, reporting, and secure disposition, to support technical and operational requirements.
Key Duties
• Lead design and prototyping of countermeasure components.
• Evaluate new systems/test equipment; recommend changes.
• Conduct RF/acoustic testing and analysis.
• Support field deployments, surveys, and user training.
Requirements
• Top Secret with SCI eligibility.
• 10+ years engineering/physics experience; BS required.
• Experience in prototyping, machining, and integration.
• Knowledge of MATLAB/Python/C++ and schematics.
