JOB SUMMARY
The Tactical Helicopter Unit (THU) supports the mission of the Tactical Section by providing safe and effective tactical aviation support for all facets of FBI investigative and intelligence activities, crisis response, and law enforcement assistance.
KEY REQUIREMENTS
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Work is usually performed from work stands, where parts worked on are in hard to reach places that require climbing, standing, stooping, bending, stretching and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Frequently lifts parts and equipment that weigh up to twenty (20) pounds, occasionally may lift items that weigh fifty (50) pounds
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work is performed in a heated but not air conditioned hanger. Some maintenance and repair may, as circumstances require be performed outside in inclement weather. Dirt, oil, grease and water are encountered in carrying out the work. Duties require occasionally working near spinning rotor blades, operating turbine engines, or rotating machinery, such as drills, lathes, grinders, etc. Fumes are encountered from volatile fuels, such as cleaning solvents, paint spray and gasoline. Some duties are accomplished in unprotected areas where dust, rain, snow, sun and wind are encountered with temperatures ranging from 100 degrees F in the summer to below freezing in the winter with protection from the elements being the type of clothing worn. Work may also require travel to distant facilities for repair, maintenance, training or consulting on helicopter matters.

MAJOR DUTIES
- Conduct scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on all THU aircraft as determined by the Lead Mechanic or Maintenance Supervisor.
- Maintain all aircraft maintenance records, monitor crew-entered maintenance discrepancies, track required/scheduled maintenance and ensure timely performance of aircraft maintenance.
- Ensure all scheduled and unscheduled aircraft maintenance work is performed to manufacturer and vendor standards, practices and procedures and in compliance with all Federal
Aviation Administration (FAA), FBI, and Department of Defense (DoD) agency regulations regarding aircraft maintenance. - Ensure compliance with the protocols, practices, and procedures as set forth in the THU Standard Operating Procedures.
- Deploy via FBI aircraft for FBI missions and lead a mixed team of contract employees to achieve THU maintenance objectives and completion goals.
- Integrate the Safety Management System into all aviation maintenance and work closely to enhance safe operations with the THU Pilots.
- Manage THU hangar space, manage bench stock, stock and replace consumables, and source and maintain specialty tools to provide a safe and effective maintenance work station.
