Duties

As a WS-5801-10, SURFACE MAINTENANCE MECHANIC SUPERVISOR, you will plan use of subordinate workers, equipment, facilities, and materials on a week-to-week or month-to-month basis. Assign tasks to be performed based on readiness and explains work requirements, methods, and procedures. Plan and establish overall leave schedules. Perform non-supervisory work, such as, transporting equipment, performing
maintenance tasks, etc. Develop, publish, and ensure employee compliance with standing operating
procedures for the activity supervised. Prepare for and participate in various types of readiness evaluations, inspections, mobilization and command support exercises. Perform other duties as assigned.

  • This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing state's National Guard, required prior to the effective date of placement.
  • Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform.
  • Acceptance of an excepted service position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment.
  • Applicants who are not currently a member of the National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership and employment in the National Guard in the military grade listed in this announcement.
  • Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation.
  • May be required to successfully complete a trial period.
  • Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.
  • May occasionally be required to work other than normal duty hours; overtime maybe required.
Qualifications

Military Grades: E-8 through CW4

GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Must have experience or training which demonstrates knowledge of equipment to be able to do routine jobs, simple preventative maintenance tasks, and can use common tools and equipment in the line of work.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Must have 36 months training or experience, in addition to the journeyman level knowledge, experience which demonstrates the ability to plan, organize, and lead the work of others in fields directly related the repair function of this occupational series. Must have the ability to perform administrative functions; to read and interpret a variety of technical publications used in the repair of supported equipment. The ability to provide guidance to others in work related directly to this occupational series.
