JOB DESCRIPTION:
Client seeks a highly motivated and proficient Software Safety Engineer to support the Federal Programs located in Huntsville, Alabama. The selected candidate will be responsible for performance of risk analyses and hazard analyses on integrated systems forming part of advanced weapons systems for the DoD. The selected candidate will be responsible for oversight of a portfolio of engineering developments and will provide assurance of engineering activities. They will support design engineers to build evidence-based safety cases for their products and will assure compliance to hardware and software engineering processes for safety critical and safety related systems.

Job Responsibilities include:
• Applies knowledge, methodologies and principles of safety engineering as defined in MIL-STD-882E and Software Safety engineering as defined in the Joint Software System Safety Engineering Handbook (JSSSEH)
• Reviews product systems, functional specifications and operations, and develops software safety targets and software safety requirements for assigned systems. Collaborate with software design teams and the customer in the execution of various MIL-STD-882E software hazard analyses, such as FHAs, HTLs, and SwSARs, required to support identification of software safety requirements in accordance with business standards and program / product objectives.
• Conduct/facilitate FHA, SAR, FMEA, Fault Tree Analysis and other safety studies with Engineering groups.
• Development of specific application, generic application, and generic product safety cases.
• Document and communicate results of technical data generated to internal and external customers.
• Coordinate the timely production of the necessary design safety documentation, especially the relevant safety cases and related documentation for approval milestones.
• Develop and maintain Hazard Tracking Log.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
BS degree in Engineering or related Science/Technical field (Electrical, Mechanical, Software or Aerospace Engineering preferred) and 10 years of experience; a Master's and 8 years of experience; or a PhD and 5 years of experience.
CLEARANCE: Candidate must have an Interim DoD Secret prior to starting employment with the ability to obtain and maintain full DoD Secret Clearance. US Citizenship required.

REQUIRED KSAs:
• Proven experience in software safety engineering.
• Familiarity with Hazard Analysis per MIL-STD-882E, Joint Software Safety Systems Engineering Handbook (JSSSEH), AMCOM Regulation 385-17, JSSSA-IG, and multiple other related safety publications.
• Experience operating as a software safety engineer (or senior engineer with software safety and assurance responsibilities), across complex, large-scale systems.
• Familiarity or experience with DOORS, C/C++ in an agile development environment.
• Experience with design, test, and analysis tools and systems.
• Strong written and oral communication skills as well as strong interpersonal skills.
• Ability to conduct research into issues and products.
• Ability to present ideas in user-friendly language and visuals.
• Highly self-motivated and directed with a keen attention to detail.
• Proven analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.
