Duties

As an AIRFIELD OPERATIONS SPECIALIST, GS-2150-09, you will process flight plans, conducting necessary research and/or queries in the coordination of scheduled flights. Assist the Airfield Operations Officer in the research and evaluation of airfield data, specific to airfield facilities, construction plans for the airfield, and changes/modifications- to airfield construction projects and/or priority adjustments. Participate in the scheduling of airfield activities with tenant and transient unit commands, requiring use of the airfield. Perform daily airfield inspections/checks for conditions, physical security, and force protection to ensure a safe airfield environment. Perform other duties as assigned.

GENERAL EXPERIENCE : Experience, education, and/or training providing a good understanding of administrative methods for accomplishing the work of an organization. Experience working with Federal, State and municipal regulations governing the use of transportation vehicles and provided a general knowledge and understanding of traffic or transportation programs or operations. Experience in maintenance of inventories and cost computations.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE : Applicants must have at least 24 months experience, education or training in maintaining, retailing, purchasing, or procurement of automotive, rail, air, bus, or other transportation equipment or services, or in the operation of a commercial transportation facility or terminal. This experience must have demonstrated knowledge of fleet operations; familiarity with Federal, State, and municipal regulations governing the use of transportation vehicles; and the maintenance of inventories and cost computations. Experience preparing reports and recommendations involving appeals, special permits, adjustments in rates and charges. Experience which involved negotiations with carriers on individual shipments or traffic movement.

QUALITY OF EXPERIENCE: Length of time is not of itself qualifying. Candidates' experience should be evaluated on the basis of duties performed rather than strictly on the rank of the individual; however, established compatibility criteria/assignments must be followed. The applicant's record of experience, training, and education must show possession of the knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to fully perform the duties of the position to be filled

Education

Discontinued service retirement annuitants (i.e., retired under section 8336(d)(1) or 8414(b)(1)(A) of title 5 United States Code) appointed to the Department of Defense may elect to be subject to retirement provisions of the new appointment as appropriate.
