Duties

  • Plans and supervise activities of 24/7 rotating shifts of security guards to ensure the maintenance of physical security standards.
  • Support the implementation of installation emergency plans in accordance with standing operating procedures.
  • Periodically inspects personnel for appearance, condition of weapons and equipment, knowledge of duties, and manner of performance.
  • Assign work to subordinates based on priorities and difficulty of assignments to capable employees. Advice and counsel employees on both work and administrative matters.
  • Prepares cost estimates for operation and maintenance of assigned vehicles and other material requirements for use in budget.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation. Incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain a SECRET level security clearance.
  • In accordance with AR 190-56, requirements of Individual Reliability Program apply.
  • In accordance with AR 600-85, a DA Form 5019R Condition of Employment must be assigned for mandatory drug testing. Drug testing designated position. Individuals agree to submit to a urinalysis on a recurring basis.
  • Shift work is required. Hours of work encompass fluctuating tours of duty to include evenings, nights, weekends and holidays. Overtime may be required as directed and is subject to recall for periods of emergency overtime.
  • Incumbent must undergo and pass periodic medical exams of physical, emotional and mental stability and will be required to pass entry level and annual re-certification of standard Army physical fitness/agility test.
  • Incumbent must successfully complete security guard and regularly scheduled training, CPR certification and First Aid training.
  • Incumbent may be required to wear chemical protection masks, gloves, and other protective equipment, and may be required to be certified in the use of aerosol irritants and baton and must wear prescribed uniform.
  • Incumbent must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
  • This position has been designated "Mission Essential". In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work.
  • In accordance with AR 690-11, this position has been designated as "Key" and shall not be vacated during a national emergency or mobilization. The incumbent must be exempted from recall to active duty.
  • Incumbent must be proficient in the use of assigned firearms/weapons, pass an initial qualification, and must qualify semi-annually thereafter in the use of assigned firearms/weapons.
  • Incumbent is subject to possible civil actions due to improper exercises of authority or injudicious use of force in the detention of individuals.
  • Good eye/hand coordination is required to operate radios and police weapons and equipment. Must be in physical condition sufficient to conduct assist in searching and restraining persons.
  • Infrequently lifts persons involved in accidents/incidents; uses unarmed combat techniques for self-defense to subdue persons.
  • Subject to verbal abuse and possible injury or death.
  • This position is subject to the Lautenberg Amendment/Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes directing the work of an organizational unit engaged in providing protective security, planning and coordinates shift activities, work with a Federal, State, municipal, local, or private protective organization that involved the protection of property against such hazards as fire, theft, damage, accident, or trespass; or maintaining order and protecting life. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-08).

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone -- no substitution of education for experience is permitted.

  • Term employment is subject to a one year trial period. Employees serving a trial period can be removed with limited appeal rights.
  • Term Appointment NTE - Position may be filled as a Term Appointment NTE 13 months. Term appointments may be extended beyond of six (6) years, up to eight (8) years. With DoD approval, Term appointments may be extended beyond eight (8) years.
  • Current permanent Federal employees (to include permanent Army employees) applying for a Term appointment will be appointed/converted into a Term appointment with no statutory return rights back to a permanent position
