The Virtualization Engineer leads system integration and sustainment activities involving virtualized environments and enterprise platforms, including VMware vSphere and Hyper-V, Windows and Linux operating systems, directory and network services, and supporting infrastructure components for the Research, Development, Test & Evaluation (RDT&E) Network. The role analyzes system performance and health using monitoring dashboards, log data, and configuration baselines to identify issues, troubleshoot complex faults, and guide corrective actions. Responsibilities include maintaining technical documentation, system diagrams, and configuration records in controlled repositories, and supporting system changes through established operational and change-management processes.

Responsibilities
This position provides technical direction on virtualization technologies to junior engineers and operations staff, coordinates closely with cybersecurity personnel on secure system implementation and compliance and supports technical planning and engineering decision-making. Through hands-on engineering expertise and proactive system analysis, the role ensures RDT&E environments remain stable, interoperable, and capable of supporting evolving research and test activities.
- Lead technical and engineering support for the design, review, configuration, implementation, maintenance, testing, and troubleshooting of DoN network solutions, data centers, cloud environments (on-premises and off-premises), and stand-alone systems.
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior personnel supporting the procurement, installation, and configuration of DoN-approved virtualization technologies in multi-tenant environments.
- Operate and maintain secure, high-availability multi-tenant virtual environments in compliance with DoN Systems Center policies, ensuring minimal unplanned downtime.
- Design, install, and configure required infrastructure components to support resilient virtualized environments, including SAN/NAS storage, network architecture, and server platforms.
- Serve as the technical lead for virtualization and Unified Communications (UC) troubleshooting, restoring and sustaining operational services in mission-critical DoN environments.
- Install, configure, and administer hybrid provisioning and analytics tools (e.g., VMware vRealize) to enhance performance visibility and automation.
- Integrate and sustain on-premises infrastructure with commercial DoD/DoN and FedRAMP-authorized hosting environments.
- Implement, validate, and maintain all required STIGs and cybersecurity controls to achieve and sustain DoN accreditation and ATO compliance.
- Recommend and implement emerging technologies to enhance mission capability and service delivery within the ITIL Continuous Service Improvement (CSI) framework, as directed by the Government.
- Configure and administer Microsoft Azure virtual machines, session hosts, virtual networks, and storage to support Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) environments.
- Maintain all certifications and qualifications required under the Cybersecurity Workforce (CSWF) framework for Privileged Access Administrator (PAA) designation.
Qualifications
- Master's level degree in an Engineering discipline.
- 10 years of professional experience in systems engineering.
- Azure Cloud certification or anything Azure-related.
- VMWare Certification.
- Active Top Secret Clearance.
