Role Overview
We are seeking a Senior Platform Engineer with deep Linux infrastructure and operational support expertise to support mission-critical systems at a secure customer site near Dulles, Virginia. This role is responsible for maintaining and operating the foundational hardware, software, networking, storage, and virtualization components that ensure system reliability, scalability, and security.
The Senior Platform Engineer supports Echelon 1 (E1) operational activities and plays a critical role in system sustainment, patching, baseline deployments, troubleshooting, and enterprise integration efforts within a highly secure environment.
Key Responsibilities
• Maintain, operate, and troubleshoot Linux-based infrastructure supporting mission systems.
• Support physical servers, virtualization platforms, networking, storage, and limited cloud environments.
• Perform Echelon 1 (E1) operational support activities to ensure systems meet mission requirements.
• Deploy Operations & Maintenance (O&M) patches and system baseline updates, including operating systems, software, network configurations, and storage configurations.
• Support enterprise-level system integration efforts.
• Document defects and issues in customer and program defect tracking systems.
• Participate in technical interchange meetings with system operators, enterprise partners, and program stakeholders.
• Travel to customer sites or factory locations to support system deliveries, updates, and troubleshooting as required.
• Participate in an on-call rotation to provide occasional off-hours support.
Required Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM), including Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, or Physics.
• Minimum 5 years of relevant platform or infrastructure engineering experience.
• Strong experience with Linux system administration (RHEL or Oracle Linux preferred).
• Experience with VMware virtualization technologies, including vCenter and ESXi.
• Experience administering LDAP, including user and group management.
• Demonstrated experience supporting production or mission-critical operational environments.
• Active TS/SCI with CI Poly security clearance required on day one.
• U.S. citizenship required due to security clearance eligibility.
Preferred Qualifications
• Bash scripting experience.
• Hardware maintenance and troubleshooting experience, including FRU replacement.
• Experience with out-of-band management tools (e.g., iDRAC, terminal server concentrators).
• Experience with Dell and Cisco hardware platforms.
• Experience with:
