AMO, an Akima company, is looking to add a Systems Engineer Lead to the team. You will provide senior-level technical leadership for the design, integration, sustainment, and optimization of networked systems supporting NIWC RDT&E mission environments. This role engineers and maintains complex system architectures across development, test, and operational enclaves, ensuring reliable, scalable, and secure system performance.
The Lead Systems Engineer leads system integration and sustainment activities involving virtualized environments and enterprise platforms, including VMware vSphere and Hyper-V, Windows and Linux operating systems, directory and network services, and supporting infrastructure components. The role analyzes system performance and health using monitoring dashboards, log data, and configuration baselines to identify issues, troubleshoot complex faults, and guide corrective actions. Responsibilities include maintaining technical documentation, system diagrams, and configuration records in controlled repositories, and supporting system changes through established operational and change-management processes.

Responsibilities
This Key position provides technical direction to junior engineers and operations staff, coordinates closely with cybersecurity personnel on secure system implementation and compliance and supports technical planning and engineering decision-making. Through hands-on engineering expertise and proactive system analysis, the Lead Systems Engineer ensures RDT&E environments remain stable, interoperable, and capable of supporting evolving research and test activities.
- Serve as the on-site senior technical Lead for the US Navy IPT programmatic and technical leads.
- Continuously analyze the customer's needs and identify security, system and programmatic requirements, risks and proposed solutions.
- Apply engineering principles to investigate, analyze, plan, and design, develop, implement, test or evaluate network systems.
- Review and prepare engineering and technical analyses, reports, change proposals, and other technical documentation.
- Apply engineering experience to perform functions such as system integration, configuration management, quality assurance testing, or acquisition and resource management.
- Analyze, design, develop, implement, test, or evaluate software, components, or systems related to engineering or functional requirements of military support systems.
- Continuously evaluate and identify additional technical resources needed to effectively support the customer, to include additional SMEs and also recommended training.
- Collaborate with Tier 1/2/3 windows admin and helpdesk personnel in evaluating common issues and enhancing the effectiveness of troubleshooting and ticket resolution.
- Provide System Administration and Network Infrastructure design, engineering, and administration support as needed.
- Possess strong written and verbal communications skills, with the ability to work independently with senior level clients.
- Understand VMware vSphere and Hyper-V virtualization to execute assigned responsibilities (planning, tracking, troubleshooting, documentation, or compliance as applicable).
- Integrate and sustain virtualized infrastructure in VMware vSphere and/or Hyper-V environments.
- Understand Windows Server / Linux to execute assigned responsibilities (planning, tracking, troubleshooting, documentation, or compliance as applicable).
- Administer and troubleshoot Windows Server and Linux systems supporting lab and test environments.
- Use centralized monitoring dashboards to execute assigned responsibilities (planning, tracking, troubleshooting, documentation, or compliance as applicable).
Qualifications
- Must be a US Citizen with active Top Secret (TS) clearance.
- Master's level degree in an Engineering discipline.
- 10 years of professional experience in systems engineering. To including hands on work-related providing:

- VMware vSphere and Hyper-V virtualization to execute assigned responsibilities (planning, tracking, troubleshooting, documentation, or compliance as applicable).

- Maintain all qualification(s) required by the Cybersecurity Workforce Framework (CSWF) for Privileged Access Administrator (PAA).
