Supervisory Environmental Protection Specialist

Duties

• Serves as a Professional Technical Advisor for all environmental issues, pest control and all phases of the land and natural resources management issues and disciplines.
• Provides personnel management and supervision of the Environmental government staff.
• Serves as professional expert for natural and cultural resource compliance, land management, forestry, landscaping, soil conservation, wildlife, and pest management.
• Analyzes budget requirements for environmental and natural resources and provides input to higher headquarters to ensure program requirements are adequately reflected in the Command Operating Budget.
• Designs landscapes for developed areas selecting appropriate natural vegetation and supplementing as appropriate with ornamental trees, shrubs, grasses and wildflowers.
• Responsible for overall management of natural/cultural resources: preparation/implementation of long-range and annual plans establishing standards, compliance acceptable practices and goals for maintenance, environmental protection, and development.

• This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment.
• This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 5% of the time.
• This position is supervisory as defined by the Office of Personnel Management's (OPM) General Schedule Supervisory Guide (GSSG). A one-year probation to assess your ability to perform supervisory duties is required unless previously completed.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes developing environmental programs in accordance with environmental laws, such as the National Historic Preservation Act, Coastal Zone Management Act, Endangered Species Act, Sikes, and Clean Water Act, executive orders and regulations; managing one or more environmental programs such as threatened and endangered species management, historic properties and archeological resources management, wetlands, general natural resources management, and/or soil conservation; experience with constructing and maintaining Integrated Natural Resources Management plans and/or Cultural Resource Management Plans; and conducting environmental inspections, surveys and audits. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12).

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-12).
