Major Duties & Responsibilities:
Systems Engineering & Integration
Perform systems engineering across system design and integration, manufacturing, quality, industrial engineering, airworthiness, configuration management, and data management.
Provide system integration guidance to aircraft program offices and government stakeholders for system installation and maintenance.
Support technology and systems development through proper application of systems engineering processes.
Assist in developing and reviewing the overall system design baseline, including architecture and interoperability requirements.
Airworthiness, Safety & Risk:
Understand and execute AFPD 62-6 (USAF Airworthiness) processes, including issuance of flight authorizations.
Apply Operational Safety, Suitability, and Effectiveness (OSS&E) and airworthiness processes.
Support safety analysis, risk assessments, recommendations, and resolution of high-priority safety issues.
Program & Technical Analysis:
Review and analyze technical proposals and system modifications for design feasibility and system capability.
Conduct systems analyses, including system design feasibility and state-of-the-art assessments.
Assist in performance, cost, lifecycle, reliability, maintainability, supportability, producibility, and schedule risk assessments.
Participate in cost, capability, and scheduling trade-off studies.
Data, Testing & Sustainment Support:
Review and assess program-specific databases.
Analyze Built-In Test (BIT) failure reports and validate BIT indications against interpreter/analyzer outputs.
Support weapon systems integration, sustainment, configuration management, and operational effectiveness across the system lifecycle.
Qualifications & Experience:
Required
15+ years of systems engineering experience, including at least 5 years supporting DoD programs
Bachelor’s degree in an engineering or related technical field
Direct experience with aircraft systems engineering
Strong understanding of DoD and Air Force engineering principles, processes, and procedures
Systems Engineering Expertise
System definition, development, integration, verification, testing, and evaluation
Sustainment, risk modeling and simulation, and airworthiness certification
OSS&E efforts, interoperability requirements, and human systems integration (HSI)
Experience across hardware and software systems, including ground-based systems
Technical & Analytical Skills:
Experience with avionics integration or Nuclear Hardening / HRIF / EME
Understanding of system architecture, application software, operating systems, networks, and storage platforms
Experience across the full system development lifecycle (initiation through sustainment)
Proficiency in process modeling and workflow diagram development
Ability to translate requirements into technical specifications and system designs
Decision Support & Communication
Experience performing trade space analysis, MODA, cost vs. capability analysis, and concept development
Ability to define problems/gaps and support science and technology roadmap analysis
Strong verbal and written communication skills, including technical presentations
Ability to present complex data clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences
Proven ability to manage multiple efforts and balance strategic and tactical priorities
Preferred:
Experience with government technical systems such as IETMS and JCALS
